Recording Technician
Responsibilities:
On the field:
- To prepare, maintain, transport, manage and operate all equipment necessary for recording
- To obtain and be in possession of all the documents required for personal travel and for transport and operation of equipment
- To be responsible for the production flow: Select the voice actors ,give direction and ensure the smooth flow of the recording process and provide leadership during devotional and prayer times with in-country staff
- To assure high quality recording of voice tracks
- Selecting and setting up a good recording studio
- Being sure that the recording equipment is in good working condition
- Insisting on high quality recording
- Achieving good lip-synchronization
- Working very closely with administrator/journalist, translator, dialogue director and voice actors
- Find out from the national director or his designate whether he would like English or foreign titles.
- Obtain and bring back an electronic and hardcopy of the foreign titles complete with the font
- Perform Field EMACS and obtain the name of one person to review the EMAC along with how to contact him / her directly (email address, mailing address and phone number) in special cases
- To clearly identify recorded voice tracks on recording charts (logs)
- To make a good back-up of all WAV files at the end of every recording day
- Perform a recording verification with the approval committee and re-record the corrections suggested by the committee; obtain a copy of the signed approval form
- Perform a Field EMAC with the approval committee and re-record the corrections suggested by the committee; obtain a copy of the signed approval form
- Edit and Mix LS and AR
- Maintain a log of activities, difficulties encountered with the recording of the language, the software and the equipment
- Be sure that the necessary recording files and equipment are complete and ready before leaving the field
- Bring the original back-up DVD Masters, VCD Masters, FEMAC files and equipment back to home base
Responsibilities:
At home base:
- To maintain, prepare, transport, manage and operate all recording equipment
- To perform all prescribed equipment system checks before and after each field trip and order any necessary repairs immediately
- Discuss the travel arrangements with the production coordinator and to obtain all the necessary travel documents for yourself and the equipment
- required for immigration and customs on every trip
- Report to the Production Manager as required, keeping him informed of equipment needs and progress on assignments
- To complete a trip report for each recording in cooperation with the administrator/journalist and submit it to the Operation Manager within 10 days of returning to home base
- To edit new recordings as directed by the Production Manager
- To participate in team meetings and staff prayer times
Qualifications:
- A deep, growing, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ
- A genuine desire to see people’s lives changed
- Thorough knowledge of recording software and hardware in Recording systems
- Competent computer skills
- Cross-cultural adaptation
- Digital audio recording training & experience
- Travel experience
- Cursory understanding of electronics
A fully developed intensive training program will be provided to every new Recording Technician in the following areas:
1. Equipment Operation
This will cover not only recording, editing, mixing and mastering processes but will focus on the maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. When the home-based training is completed, each new technician will be provided with a trainer that will finish the instruction in the field during an actual recording
2. Cross-cultural /Security
The Recording Technician should also receive cross-cultural training with an emphasis on Crisis Management. Ideally this will be provided by our Crisis Management team in the Power to Change office
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to JFP Production Manager
Works closely with: Assistant Production Manager, Technical Manager and Journalist Administrator
Working Conditions:
The Recording Technician works cooperatively with all JFP team members and Power to Change staff. International travel approximately 6 times per year in order to serve the national staff and local people
