The paradox of power

by Charles C.

When I was 39, the President of the United States asked me to serve as his special counsel.

It was one of the most powerful positions in the world. Every day, National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger walked into our briefing sessions with a worried look on this face and said, ‘The decision we are going to make today will change the future course of human history.’

I now realize we never changed anything. We dealt with Congress and newspapers but we didn’t change how people lived. It was in prison, where I served time for my involvement in the Watergate conspiracy that I learned about real power.

Did prison change Charles?  Read the rest of his story.

I am very interested in this topic. Where can I find more information about this? Or, if you can pursue this further here.

The man’s full name is Charles Colson. His story was made into the 1978 film “Born Again”, which is available on DVD from online retailers. Colson wrote a book by the same name, which is also available online. More information on Colson can be found at Wikipedia.

Upon re-reading Colson’s piece, I find it interesting that he makes no mention of any responsibility for wrongdoing in the Watergate scandal. There is no mention of committing any error or fault or sin; it’s as if Watergate simply happened around him. Rather than confessing his role as a central actor in the crimes, he uses the passive word “unfolded” to portray himself as almost a bystander who was unfairly caught up in the wave of events. This unwillingness to admit involvement leads me to doubt the depth of his conversion. How can he know forgiveness if he still denies his sins?

Colson is a criminal, and remains one by profiteering from spreading a scam - tiger doesnt change its stripes. Christians seem to attract con artists like the bushes, cheneys, Mike Warnke, jim bakker, charles swindoll (accurate last name - “swindle” as my grandmother called him), earnest angely, etc. because they are self deluded - conning themselves in spite of overwhelming physical and scientific evidence to the contrary of what the Bible teaches. The actual truth is, God is imaginary. See http://www.godisimaginary.com
