“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
(Psalm 37:4)
Often I wished we could live close to an ocean or a lake. This desire intensified after hearing author Philip Keller speak on the spiritual insights he gained while living near the ocean.?
However, I never told God about my desire… I thought it was too self-centred.
After selling our farm in the country my husband, Marvin, and I spent many tedious days looking for a house we both liked, but we found none. Seeing that we were discouraged, our friends encouraged us to rent an apartment instead of buying a house and so we followed their advice.? We checked out an apartment, liked it, and leased it for a year.
I loved it. All of the windows overlooked a most beautiful golf course. The view was so soothing and relaxing.
And to my surprise,? I discovered our apartment was only a few blocks from the ocean. God had given me the desire of my heart.
I loved walking along the ocean, watching? the changing moods of the water, delighting in the many variety of birds… sitting on the driftwood to meditate and pray.
During the three years we lived there, my heart often swelled with thanksgiving and joy.? My loving and kind heavenly Father had given me the desires of my heart–a wonderful surprise.
~Lord, I have often read the verse about delighting in you and you would give us the desires of our heart. ? I don’t know why I am surprised when you do what you say you will do.? But I sure do like it. Thanks for the delightful surprise.? Amen
