“But I have stilled and quieted my heart.???
(Psalm 131:2a)
Our daughter once had a beautiful white cat – a house cat.? When the children were young I never allowed cats in the house. We lived on a farm and dogs and cats were outside animals as far as I was concerned.? But as I grew older and mellowed, a lot of my house rules didn’t seem that important anymore.
Our granddaughter Renee didn’t like the cat being in the house. She was afraid of animals.? We didn’t know why, she just was.? When she was at our house, she watched that cat very carefully.? If it started walking in her direction, she ran to the closest adult as fast as her little legs could carry her.?
She would sit in their lap, her legs tucked in under her.? We would put our arms around her to protect her.? We knew the cat wouldn’t hurt her, but she didn’t know that, so we didn’t scold her for being afraid.? We just held her tenderly until the cat left the room and she had the courage to go and play again.
The New International Version of the Bible often translates the word “trust??? as “take refuge in???.? It reminds me of my frightened granddaughter curling up in my lap.? We have all had times when we are afraid — of the past, of the present or of the future.? ? God knows about our fears. ? He is waiting for us to come sit on His lap so He can show us tender loving kindness.?
Why not pray this prayer written by Elisabeth Elliot today?
~“Teach me to treat all that comes to me with peace of soul and with firm conviction that your will governs all.? Amen???
