Experiencing God?s Best

“Many plans are in a man’s heart, But the counsel of the LORD will stand”
(Proverbs 19:21).

When I think about the issue of experiencing God’s best in life, I am often reminded of my friend George. He once shared a story from his young adulthood that perfectly illustrates the need to include God in our daily plans and pursuits.

One day a number of years ago, George was approached by two brothers with whom he had become good friends. The men invited George to join them in a business venture. The initial investment was to be only $300 – just $100 apiece would have made the men equal partners. George listened to their proposal but replied, “No, I don’t think it will work.” And that was the end of it.

He did not really investigate the opportunity thoroughly and he certainly did not take the time to pray about it. He simply replied out of his own wisdom and gut reaction.

American business history has shown the folly in George’s decision. You see, those two men – the Hertz brothers – went on to establish the well-known car rental company that bears their name. For only $100, George could have owned a full third of that successful enterprise; however, as he later admitted, George neglected to involve God in that decision. Had he prayed about it and sought God’s will, the outcome could have been much different.

How often have you missed God’s best simply because you failed to include Him in your decision making? Bring your pursuits to Him today; His best blessings may be just around the corner.
