The Erosion Of Our Life

Written by Stacy Wiebe

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect”
(Romans 12:2).

When you hear the word “erosion,” what comes to mind? Most likely, you think about how land or rocks wear away over an extended period of time. You see, physical erosion does not happen quickly. Rather, it is the result of centuries of pressure and friction. In the same way, our spiritual lives do not decay suddenly, but subtly erode over the course of months or years.

What causes this deterioration?

The answer is sin. Disobedience in the human heart does to a life what the elements do to the earth’s surface. It carries away the best parts and depletes potential.

Is something in your life wearing you away? Can you detect a gradual weakening that has taken place as the result of worldly pressures? My friend, if such a process of decay is occurring in your life right now, then you must identify the affected areas and bring the erosion to an end. Left unchecked, sinful behavior can result in a hollow, ineffective existence. Is that what you want to see as you come to the end of your life?

But remember, erosion takes time. You may be struggling with something that has been plaguing you for months or even years. While the problem may have developed gradually, it can still have a profound effect. However, do not think you have to fix a long-standing problem overnight. Simply confess that area and turn it over to God. He wants to bring transformation in your life. And that starts the moment you repent of the sin and call upon His name. Don’t wait another day to start back on the right course.
