Shelly was new to her management position. She could see some stuff going on in her department that was not in the best interest of her team. Her boss quietly took her aside and said, “Shelly, you have the authority to deal with this.” Though hesitant at first, Shelly found she did indeed have the authority to deal with the situation. Moving things out of the downward spiral and heading in the right direction again, Shelly saw a parallel in her Christian walk.
So often we can feel a downward spiral in our own soul. Sometimes things don’t go as we had hoped or planned; sometimes discouragement sets in and we can feel helpless to change. Did you know that when Jesus died on the cross, all the powers that work to drag us down were overcome?
“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them,
triumphing over them by the cross” (Colossians 2: 15).
God says that as Christians we share in this victory and we have a position in the heavenly realm with Jesus.
“and God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realm in Christ Jesus…” (Ephesians 2:6)
You share in His victory! Know, that by the power of Jesus, you can rise above the downward spirals that threaten you. If you are caught in a cycle that is bringing discouragement or depression to your soul, get help. Sometimes there are contributing physical factors that need addressing. Sometimes there is emotional pain to be dealt with. Sometimes we need to simply take the authority that God has given us through Jesus to understand that we do not need to be held captive. Whatever the source of the downward spiral, understand that your position can help to move you from victim to victory.
~Father God,
Thank You that when I received Jesus as my Savior, I stepped into a position with Him in the heavenlies, not because I earned it or deserved it, but because it is Your gift to me. Thank You, Father, that this position is above all the powers and dominions of this world and the spiritual world. Help me today to stand in the authority of this position with the powers of darkness under my feet, knowing that You have disarmed them and that I need not be bent under them! Keep my heart focused on You. Keep sharp my desire to confess the daily things that put a block in my relationship with You. Thank You, Father, for the victorious position You have provided, for me as Your child. Help me to live in this identity today! In Jesus’ strong name I pray, amen.
