You are so right on Sonchild! Thanks for your comment! And I totally agree! That it is good for us to better know what we believe and why we believe it.

In answer to your question about the Bible being just a story written about by others Sarah, in fact, the first four books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, were written and based on the accounts of eye witnesses who had walked with Jesus and seen both his life and death on the cross. Similarily, the Resurrection was recorded as fact. Had this only been a story, the Roman government would have been quick to dispell it as just a myth.

One thing that this book should accomplish is for all Christians to become intensely more knowledgeable about the Word of God. If we as Christians know the real thing, then we can point out what is counterfeit. Seems that it is often easier for people to believe and accept fiction, fables and fantasy rather than the unvarnished truth of God's Word!

You are right Sarah but there is actual historical evidence to back up what the bible says. I think to ignore the book and pass it off as just a book would be hazardous to all who are seeking. Yes, all this hype is benefitting Dan Brown's pocket but I like to think that God knew this was going to happen way before Dan Brown ever did and it was all in God's plan to expand His kingdom.

deebee: you said that many base their thoughts and values upon what they hear or see in the media. Similarly, this could also be said about novels, books. This invokes that you believe people may believe many a thing about what is written/said by others.

Your example was to listen to 2 women talking about a soap opera, and hearing how much they believe these are real life situations.

Similiarly, is reading the life of Jesus, which is written about by others, and talked about as if real life situations not about the same? We read the Bible and many believe it.

I hear you Rob and Leah! I was of the same opinion....it is just a novel, fiction, get over it!

Unfortunately though, many people base their thoughts and values on what they hear or see in the media. Listen to any two women talking about a soap opera and you will quickly realize that they have gone from watching a tv show to believing that these are real life situations.

Having said that however, I do believe that Christians should be proactive, and be prepared to discuss and share the truth about who Jesus is, his death and resurrection, in a time where everyone will be talking about the movie. It is when we become critical, defensive and arrogant in attacking Dan Brown that we truly become foolish....God loves Dan Brown and sent His son Jesus to die for him....we need to be very careful to remember that!

Before I read the book, I wondered what is all the hoopla about and was under the impression that it's just a book why make a big deal about it. Then I thought the Bible is just a book but look how it has the power to change people's lives. Then I read The Da Vinci Code and realized the power it could have on people. I personally believe we need to be proactive.
