Note: For those of you who, like me, thought the name was “Snow Angel Man,” I’d highly recommend wearing clothes if participating.

It reminds me of a joke I heard about a study of the last words said by people dying in Wisconsin. In about 20% of the cases the person swore; the rest said, “Hold my beer and watch this.”

Isn’t this piece used on a sattelite or something that astronauts have sent into space in case they encounter aliens? I thought I heard that once…and always thought, “they’re gonna think we’ve got 4 arms and 4 legs, we all work out, and male!”

  • sheldon says:

If they used this, wouldn’t aliens look at it as ok, target practice.

  • rob says:

Hey, maybe NASA saw this as a code also…we move fast, like angels! Try and shoot us!

In case you are wondering what this drawing *really* means:
Da Vinci was a student of the human body. He used anatomy, geometry and mathematics to make his art look real. In this drawing, he’s shown that a man’s perfectly proportioned body will fill a circle when his arms and legs are open and extended, and when his arms are open and his legs straight, he fits in a square. I learned this from my preschool class! :) See also my comment on Mona Lisa. More on Vitruvian man: http://altreligion.about.com/library/glossary/symbols/bldefsvitruvian.htm

Thanks for the fascinating information eteci! Much appreciated! and very interesting!Only God could have created man so perfectly me thinks!

  • Kelly Kline says:

My opinion of the painting is that the circle represents Heaven (spirit world), and the square symbolizes Earth. Notice how the arms in the circle are up and the figure appears as the soul of the man. The circle is very symbolic and spritual. If you ponder on it for a moment, everything in some way has a center. The cycle of life, spiritual evolution, the cycles of the seasons, days on the calendar, day and night, etc.
God… being the center of the circle in which everyone will return.

just a thought here.. and i do not claim to be ther sharpest tool in the shed but does anyone else see the pentacle here ?
the earth, air, fire, water and spirt ? you all claim that christianity doesn’t take on pagan rites yet .. all the holidays known to pagans for years before jesus just happen to co-calendar with your holidays and so called gatherings .. i beleive this was done to cut down on the deaths causes by those who still carried on the wiccan rede .. which by the way doesn’t mean killing cats and black magic .. the rede says
‘harm none … do what they wilt, and remember always the rule of 3 what you do comes back to you.” .. that is good and bad
sort of like jesus saying .. ‘love one another’ .. ya think????
    ~blessed be

There’s 8 appendages (9 if you include the head). I think its stretching a bit to see a pentacle there. At least, IMHO.

As for the holidays … first of all, these were gradually assigned many years after the Bible was written. None are recorded in the Bible, therefore they are the product of later traditions. Secondly, the Christian holidays bear no resemblance to the pagan holidays. So clearly the holidays themselves are not copied. Why then would they take place on the same day? The reason is Christians chose the same day on purpose to replace, or supplant, the pagan holidays that formerly took place on those days.

Jesus’ message to love one another is indeed true, and indeed it is found in all major religions. As seekers of “good faith” we need to remain humble enough to accept the truth no matter whose mouth its coming from. That particular message is not unique to Jesus. What IS unique is the person of Jesus Christ, the gospel (of salvation by grace alone via Jesus’ payment for our sins on the cross to reconnect us to God) and the historical reliability and authenticity of the Bible.
