Check out what Bart Ehrman thinks of the DaVinci Code “controversy”

  • Leah says:

Ok, the girl in the hood, you would think that she was a monk from the movie or something :-)

  • Doug says:

That’s a good list, Matt. By the way, has anyone read the first comment posted on Matt’s blog by the self-proclaimed promised Messiah. Quite humorous. :)

I am very surprised at the contreversey created by this (fiction) novel! After all, it is merely a book of fiction!! Consider that the Lord did say that many will try to decieve His people. Our precious Lord Jesus claimed who He is, that He is the living Saviour, the Son of God. He was seen by many after His resurrection. What surprises me more is that many renowned and annointed teachers of the Gospel are also laying emphasis on the book itself and trying to counter its contents, rather than simply ignoring the novel, its fiction and author. By this, we help the movie-makers and the novelist to make more money!!

There are, at the present time so many attempts being made to ridicule and deny the Holy Bible and its message. There are stories that the world was created by a ‘big bang’, that the parting of the Red Sea was because of an earthquake etc. Recently, a book called the ‘gospel of Jude’ has come out!!

For me, I know that He lives, and He is in full control, and holds all these things in derission!! How do I know He lives? Because He lives in my heart.

If anyone is in any doubt, you have only to ask God to reveal Himself.

No, I have not read the book, nor any “counters” written by well-meaning Gospel teachers either. Because I do not need to waste time or money.

  • Leah says:

The problem with saying that is just fiction, is that a lot of people who don’t know the truth could believe the claims.

Isn’t it smart to have a place for people to investigate the claims in the book. To ingnore this book could be dangerous.

It’s good to have faith and say that Jesus lives because you know it in your heart but for a lot of people out there that think with their heads they need evidence.

I certaintly didn’t feel that reading the book was a waste of my time, it confirmed my believe in God and made be sharpen my knowledge of the bible and theology. I wouldn’t call that a waste of time.

  • Gladys says:

I believe the Holy Bible, I was taught in Church about Jesus, his death on the cross and he rose again on the third day. I don’t need to see a movie, be it fiction or truth to know these things, Jesus is my Saviour and Lord, some day when my life is over I will join him in heaven. I will get to see all of my family and friends that have crossed the River Jordan before me and we will be happy for enterity. There will be many that will not make it to heaven, I pity their poor souls.

  • carol says:

the video expressed sincere views. i have not read it as yet but have heard from others who have ( who are credible people ) that is written on the human side not from the lords side. which i do believe possible. neverthe less i will read the book i will not see the movie as it is not credible in the preview scenes

  • lori says:

just a quick note to say the interviewees were not very eloquent! Could you have not found people who could express themselves better? I agree with Leah and her comment about the hood! I think we have to be able to give an answer so that is why I spent a bit of time delving into the controversy. It can be done without getting obsessive about it and giving glory where it is not due.

  • sheldon says:

Lori/Leah: These people were literally people that we found on the street. We weren’t after polished thought. We were after everyday people.

  • jboogie1970 says:

Where sin abounds grace much more abounds.
When this fictional movie comes out then the Lord will still show the people Jesus is Lord and our Father in heaven is still in charge. Our father knew the latter from the beginning so God is raising people up now to deal with this matter.

  • Leah says:

    Sheldon: I was joking

  • deebee says:

The verse that keeps coming back to me is the one from 1 Peter 3:15: “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentlenss and respect.”

  • Michael P. Ames says:

The Way of Devine Love refutes the film (a dialog between a nun adn JC)

  • Nnamdi says:

Its ok to read the book, if you have the time and and money, because it will also help you to grow in your faith and also to see the ignorance of men without Christ no matter their educational background.

  • Spencer D. says:

I have not seen the movie yet. It is probably a good story. Kind of like National Treasure. But the movie will not inspire me to a new “understanding” of Jesue or faith. Just like I will not break into the National Archives and try to read the back of the Constitutuion.
The factual historical evidence is there for anyone to read- especially with the blog community- it will be hard for the book to be truley represented as anything other than what it is-an OK story line written as fiction that is going to make Mr. Brown lots of money- and he is loving the controversy and will probably become a regular fiction writer. He’s good, that I will grant- but hardly accurate.
