(1 Thessalonians 5:17)
What did the apostle Paul mean when he wrote, “Pray without ceasing“? For one, he was indicating that we can live in an attitude of prayer even though we are engaged in everyday activity. This does not mean we walk around mumbling prayers to God, though there will be days when we pray much more than in others.
Instead, the indication here leans to one of opportunity. We can have a natural attitude of prayer surrounding our lives. Prayerfulness is a sign that we are dependent on the Lord and not on ourselves. Should you pray about trivial matters? Yes. God listens to every prayer. A prayer to find lost glasses or to mentally retrieve forgotten information are worthy requests.
God has called us to be people of prayer. Communication on this level is one of intimate fellowship with the Savior. It is through prayer that we discover the goodness and personal devotion of God. Though taking time to be alone with God is the ideal, we don?t have to limit ourselves. God hears our prayers no matter where we pray.
Oswald Chambers writes: “So many of us limit our praying because we are not reckless in our confidence in God. In the eyes of those who do not know God, it is madness to trust Him. But when we pray through the power of the Holy Spirit we realize the resources of God — He is our perfect heavenly Father, and we are His children.”

Dear Dr. Stanley,
In the bible in Jeremiah 30:17 that God will restore health
to us & heal us of our wounds. Dodie Osteen was healed
of cancer. In Her book Healed of Cancer there are about
thirty-five scriptures on healing I read daily for three
months saying them out loud. Acts 10:34 says that God is
no respector of persons. I have severe hearing lost that
I believe God would restore. Since God is perfect,
where did I go wrong? Did I give up too soon?
Matthew 18:19 Agree with someone for your healing.
The assistant paster & I agree on a certain day that I
would be healed in God timing. Hebrew 10:35 Therefore
do not cast away your confidence in Jesus & His word
which has great reward. I would appreciate hearing from
you. Donald O’Dell
Dear Donald,
Thank you for your comment. As you can appreciate, Dr. Stanley receives many comments from his devotionals and so he is unable to respond to them all but we have a team of people who do respond to these comments. We very much appreciate your question.
I agree that God is the great Healer. Paul asked to be healed of the “thorn in his flesh” but after asking 3 times for God to heal him without result he decided in
(2 Corinthians 12:6-1) v9″But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” God used Paul mightily as you know.
Ask God what it is that He wants you to learn? Just tell Him that you want only His will.
Here are a few articles about people who asked for healing but God had a different “Healing” in mind for them.
