It’s good to be reminded of the “one anothers” isn’t it?
When I was a college freshman, the woman who was mentoring me introduced me to a way of meditating on and applying Scripture. After her time in the Word, she would write in pen on her hand a word or two that the Holy Spirit had brought her to attention, and as she used her hands through the day, her eyes would land on the words and remind her of God’s truth. (There’s a biblical precedent for this in Deuteronomy 11:18-21).
I’ve tried this and it works! If you’re adverse to writing on your hand, put it on sticky note where you’ll see it throughout the day– maybe on your computer monitor, the dashboard of your car, or your refrigerator.
Based on the “one another” passages we are looking at today, I’m writing “patient” on one hand and “bear with” on the other.
What words is the Spirit bringing to your attention today?
It’s not do not pass judgement on one another it’s judge fairly. You need to be able to know if someone is a false prophet or not. I’m a little sensitive to this because it is used against us Chritians so much. Don’t hate a person as a whole but you are suppose to hold one another accountable. If they are leading a sinful life then you should help them not to. They should also help you. But don’t degrade everything about them because of this one sin they try to convince the world is okay to do. Don’t judge one another’s personality. So many Christians want to take that text and say that it’s okay to be an adulter because everyone sins and you can’t judge that person. So is it the same with murder? I can’t say it was wrong that person did that? Read 1 John 2:1-14.
I so appreciate seeing this list and yet I always find myself wondering why they are so hard to keep. I go into a very judgmental pose of myself for not being able to go through a day doing a better job at keeping these “one anothers”. And it’s not a matter of working one just one because they all reflect a Christ-like character that we’re supposed to have.
Any thoughts?
Was looking at comments and feel that some have gotten off track about the judgement part.
Yes if it is in the church we have to correct when we see our brethern sin, but the scriptures on false prophets is about someone that looked like a christian, but was not.
So I don’t think that applies to brethern. Then we start talking about someone who is a christian and looks like a sinner. Two separate things.
As far as judgement, Romans 14:8-13 is talking about judgement and it says, “Let us not therefore judge one another any more, but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in their brother’s way.
Matt. 7:1-2 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2. For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Also see: James 4:12, John 8:7, I Cor. 4:5
Romans 2: 15, 16 Romans 2: 1-6, Rom. 14:4
Yes, when we see our brothers fall, we can recognize their sin and we need to go to them and try to restore them. The church has to discipline, but we are not judge and jury, judgement is God’s. Yes we can say that its wrong, because the scripture says it is wrong. I don’t think that is judgement. Judgement is deciding the penality for sin.
Anyway, I enjoyed the devotional and will pick several to remember today.
Excellent thoughts today. I am going to make a copy of this for sure and post it where the family can see it & I am also going to be sharing it with a lot of my friends so once again EXCELLENT THOUGHTS for sure !!
Big Hugs to all !!
I’m even judgemental against myself and sometimes don’t allow others to support and love me! Some of these could also be a gentle and loving reminder from our Heavenly Father that He loves us! I need to love myself too even when I mess up and allow others to minister to me. I’ll be posting this up where I can see the list daily. As I take steps daily to love one another I’ll be growing closer to the ONE WHO IS LOVE! Blessings to all!
This really hits home for me today. I’m struggling with dealing with a coworker patiently.
Thank you for the reminder. I’m printing this one out for sure! :D
This list is so important for us today. Thank you for sharing. We all encounter people everyday and in this time and season we are in people are different. It is nice to know how we can be the salt and the light to those who cross our path.
In regards to your comment Amy, on havig a hard time to keeping to these “one anothers”. I think we all do. Because the more we try and do what the Lord wants, the more the Devil tries to get in the way of it.I also struggle with these things. So here is my suggestion….
We would never get up and leave the house without clothes on. would we? NO! so…write these “one anothers” on a recipes card or something. and every morning when you get up, read it and remind yourself of these things and then praise God for the work he is doing in you! Just like you would get dressed and ready for the day..we also need to get our hearts and minds ready for the day also!
I hope this was helpful. This blog is great! It is so nice to hear that God has us “digging deeper”.
God bless!!!
Thanks, Tracy. You’re so right and it just helps to hear the words over and over and to hear from other sisters. Your gift for encouragement shines through!
Well, our actions and feelings for others is working hand in hand with the holy spirit. God will convict and help us to love others if we let him do so. This is what I have experience.
Yet, there is so much that I can let go. I constantly get angry at and judge others. Hope that Jesus will help me cause my will is his.
Postscript: Did I *ever* need “Patience” and “Bear with” inscribed on my heart today (and written on my hands so that I would remember)! The Spirit knew!
