he is under illusions and unable to follow the word of god.

Dan Brown has undoubtedly made a fortune from this book,Film rights an’ all.But I think it rather odd that the authors of Holly Blood & Holy Grail tried to take him to court, for using their theory.Firstly considering they’ve re-issued their book, expect it’s doing well.And secondly since W.E.Phipps wrote a book called WAS JESUS MARRIED? in 1970.

Wes, John is not questioning the existance of Jesus… he is questioning the Bibles sources of scripture and not to mention scriptures that have never been entered becuase they were destroyed by fearful men. Though most scripture is taken out of context, and that’s a litteral spoken term.

You said it very well indeed Vince…at the end of the day what is important is whether or not we believe that Jesus Christ really was who he said he was, that he was indeed the Son of God and God Himself!That’s why the Jews wanted Him crucified because He claimed equality with God….and they would not believe that. We have the same choice today…to believe? or not to believe? that is the question!

I geuss what I find both inspiring and distressing about all this is…

(A) How wonderful it is to see so many be catapulted into researching history (there are people who are doing this for the first time in their lives!) I feel it would be great if more books and movies caused this type of reaction.

(B) How so many are dependent on facts instead of faith. Mind instead of Spirit

So many intelligent, powerful men have been transformed by the Bible and in turn have transformed the world. All this point/counterpoint really has to do with is those who truly believe and those who don’t. There are those believers who are biblical scholars and know the bibles history inside and out and still choose to believe in Jesus’ divinity. This is the only way (in having faith is his divinity) that one can truly be transformed. There is power there that no historical facts can take away. Then there are those who are passionate about biblical history who can teach us so much, but they choose to stay rooted in and inspired by only the facts.

At the end of the day Dan Brown’s “Fact page” is full of holes. I wished he left it out. If he had faith in his work, which he himself keeps saying is fiction, he could have caused less controversy by skipping the fact page (unless that’s what he wanted). The book was great on its own. (The movie falls far short of it). It’s OK to question, it’s OK to wonder. But when it comes to faith you’re either fully there or not. Yes, it gets shaky sometimes, but there isn’t a person on this planet, no matter how intelligent they are, who can tell us what we should believe or not believe. They cannot define faith for us, because faith can only be defined by the spirit.

Where is the evidence that Jesus was resurrected from the dead? Thousands of people were crucified on the cross and undoubtedly many survived days afterward including Jesus. Jesus was a man—-just a man with physical, social, psychological, and moral needs like anyone else. In all probability, he married Mary Magdalene—-a deciple—-a woman who washed his feet, tended to his wounds, nursed him back to health and probably married the man and had kids. This of course supports the idea espoused for centuries that Kings and Queens ruled by divine right. What better right than be descended from the most faithful of all persons. Jesus’ family followed a script meticulously outlined in the old testament—for which they were intensely privy. Where I ask everyone, where can be found the empirical evidence supporting any of these claims? Well of course most religious people will say the Bible. If one uses a book for evidence, then what are we to do with all the testaments kicked out—among these the Gospel of Nicodemus. No book of any kind can be used for evidence for anything.

Michael,
That is probably one of my most favorite C.S.Lewis quotes…and it really does demand a response from us.The best part of this is that C.S.Lewis was an atheist who wanted to prove that Christianity was not anything that could be historically correct and in the process, came to this point in his life, that Jesus really was who He said He was. So to the other visitors on this blog, what do you think about this argument?
