“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority??? (1 Timothy 2:1).
When was the last time you prayed for your government’s leaders? I was reminded again today that this is one of God’s commands to us. He made it a high priority. A friend of mine called to tell me that he had read Dr. Bill Bright’s book on prayer and fasting and had begun to fast on Mondays. What really encouraged me is that he responded to God’s call to be an intercessor.
Intercessory prayer has become a priority for him. When his wife had an aneurism and was told she would always be an invalid, my friend began to intercede for his wife. God heard his cry and she recovered. But, unlike so many of us, my friend now intercedes for many people. Often when our personal prayers are answered, we stop interceding. But not this dear friend.
He spends one to two hours every morning and thirty minutes at night praying and interceding for others. He prays daily for sixteen government leaders and for the Supreme Court judges. I read a quote a while ago that said that if we prayed as much as we criticize, the world would be a different place. I believe that! May God let my actions make it real in my prayer life.

~Dear Father, forgive us for so often focussing our prayers on “me and mine???. We should also be interceding for our leaders. Make us effective intercessors. Amen

Not only do the leaders of our country need our prayers but also the leaders of our churches . . .
My precious Lord, we pray for grace and wisdom for both our
national leaders as well as the leadership of our churches.
Give them boldness to speak out your wisdom and yet unity.
give them dreams to dream and visions to see of your work through their lives, help each to abide in your presence and to carry you with them werever they go. In the name of Jesus we pray.

I believe that the most powerful prayer we can pray for our leaders is found in Isaiah 11:2. As we pray that the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of council and power and the Sprit of knowledge and power be upon them we are preparing them to be the leaders that has called them to be. This is supported in other scriptures such as Judges 3:10 and Isaiah 28:6

Lord Jesus:
Forgive my sins and hear my prayer this morning.
Be with and Bless all our Veteran’s who have fought for our country and kept our nation free.
Be with our nation’s leaders and those high government officials so that we have a Godly country.
Be with other leaders in our community and teachers who guide us in our growth.
I Love you Lord Jesus.
Thank you for this devotional today.
When we share and prayer for each other the answers seem more real.
Thank you Lord and God Bless Everyone.
In Jesus name I pray THANKFULLY…

This was so amazing for me this morning…..I can’t say that I have never prayed for our leaders, and that isn’t necessarily what hit home for me. What hit home was the “intercessory” prayer….I always pray for friends, family and the like. Special needs, special issues; but interceding…..that is different I think. Saying, Lord I lift so and so up to you for ___________ must be different than actually praying so specific that you are almost that person…..does that make sense? Stepping in their shoes; that is how I think of the term “intercessory prayer.” Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Because I think I need to rethink my devotion and prayer time in the mornings and add something different to my evening. Guidance please!!!
