Talk about the Virginia Tech shooting

Written by ChrisC

When something like this happens you can be at a loss for words while at the same time wanting to say so much. 32 people are now dead including the gunman who killed himself. There are stories of classmates locking themselves in rooms, jumping from the third floor, and a professor sacrificing his life for his students.

Is there really anything one person can say to make sense of something like this? What went through your mind when you heard about the shooting? What would you like to say to the classmates and parents of the victims?

My prayers continuosly go out to all the victims families ,the injured and the people who helped with the rescue effort and everyone affected by this tragedy. I also pray for the family of Cho Seung-Hui.
May we all find it in our hearts to forgive the man who’s spirit was over-taken my evil.

Our deepest thoughts and prayers for all the families and friends of the 33 victims. We are sorry for your lost.

May the comfort of Christ the King dwell up on each of you and strengthen you all, as we allow the peace of Jesus to flow through us.

    God Bless.

I live about a half hour from campus and know some students there. Right now, when asked what anyone can do it pray. They are feeling them. God Bless

Right now it’s hard for me to feel compassion for gunman Cho Seung-Hui. But my heart aches for his mom. Can you imagine how devastating it would be as mother, learning her son killed 32 people and himself? Also, in the South Korean culture, the idea of shame and losing face is so powerful.

The weight of this immense loss directly affects thousands of people.

I pray that Cho’s mother — and all the bereaved — will come to experience the peace that passes understanding, the peace of Christ Jesus.

This is horrific to the most extreme, but it does not shock me as it probably would have years ago. I pray that the leaders of this nation will think twice before taking God out of schools, taking prayer out of schools and biblical teachings, values, morals, out of our schools. Take God out of the equation and all that is left is evil…
Someone could have approached this lost soul who committed these hainous crimes, but were probably not sure if it were politically correct, or maybe it would violate his rights if they were to push “religion” on him…
I know, because of my workplace, there are so many hurting individuals, but for fear of losing my job and not being able to provide for my family I cannot talk “religion” or be politically incorrect for fear of violating that persons rights or someone who may just overhear it…
I will pray for the families of the victims, but my prayers will not reach these families if these same families deny God. These are dark times my fellow Christians, and its hard being a Christian, especially in a country that fights against itself. The enemy is busy, very busy. We must all be watchful especially this day in age.

  • Gail says:

My prayers are with the families and friends of all those who died on Monday. I can only imagine the flood tide of emotions and questions they must be going through.

I am so grateful we can pray and that God hears and will send His comfort. I pray those in pain will run to God’s arms of comfort and not push Him away at this very sad time.

I’m also thankful we can let those who are hurting know that we care and we are praying.

    May God be their strength.

“Perfect Loves casts out fear” 1 John 4:18
And this is what I am praying … that all involved will somehow receive that perfect love from The Lord and remove this gripping fear. That The Lord will flood each and everyone with His Perfect Peace and somehow, somehow from this horrible horrible nightmare and tradgedy…He will make all things turn around for good. We don’t know how, but we have to believe this…His Ways are not our ways. Let us simply trust Him to help us through all of this.
And of course the constant love of our family and friends is so important….I think things like this make us all realize how fragile life is and what things are so important. I would also like to suggest that the gun laws in the United States need to be changed…also here in Canada. No longer…”the right to bear arms” !!!! This has to STOP now !!! In Jesus Name I pray
Christ’s Peace + Hope to you all and the whole world ….for this tradegy affects and saddens each and everyone of us.

  • Therese says:

Indeed there is nothing we as humans, in our own effort, can offer to these hurting families and the other students who were there at the time. But in Christ we can offer them hope for their future, show them how to forgive as Christ forgave and provide comfort through His love in us. We can ALWAYS pray. We can as others have stated here, reach outside of our comfort zone and try to impact the lives of young people who are searching for God. We can pray for the enemy to be defeated through our love and petitions to a God that understands their needs at this time. We can grieve and cry with them in spite of our inability to understand the horrific nature of what this poor man as done to others and to himself. I too wonder if anyone ever told him the Truth about God. I have 3 teenagers preparing for college – they took this very hard – they all have faith in Christ, but I saw the fear in their eyes as they heard about young people very near to their age being cut down in such a horrible way. Thankfully we have a Lord that understands our hurt and through His word we can lead our young people to Christ, His promises and a bright hope for their future – it still isn’t easy to see the fear in their eyes, but the Lord gives me the courage to spur them on in Christ. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comfots us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

I agree with you Heather. There is not much you can say except I am praying for you. And what an amazing thing…that we can pray for others in the midst of incredible grief!!

  • Richard says:

I would say I’m sorry for what happened to your family but through this we can learn from it and maybe prevent it from happening again. Prevent by getting out of our own clique and reaching out to other people as well. By not doing what other people did.

  • Heather says:

I’d say, I don’t understand how you’re feeling at this time but I’ll be praying for you and thinking of all the families. I hope the media lets you grieve in peace.

  • Mark says:

As for what to say to the families. I think at a time like this and a tragedy like this it’s very difficult to choose those words. I would communicate the grace of God in these circumstances. I’d offer comfort and support that they need at this time.

  • Concerned says:

I am praying for the victims of the recent and horrifying shooting at Virginia Tech University.
I pray for their families most especially the victims. That wherever they are now, I pray for their
    eternal peace.

  • Heavy Hearted says:

I wrote this the day of the Massacre at Virginia Tech. No wonder my spirit was so heavy all day.

And especially early in the morning. I cried a lot during the day….
And I did not even hear the news till later on in the day.
We who are saved in Christ are connected by the spirit.
And we feel what Christ feels. If we feel as Christ, then we
are obligated, and prompted to bring others to his throne.
To help others. This is my desire.
I just wonder, if he had received an opportunity, to find Christ.
And what about those other 32?
Precious souls, before the Lord. Were Christians silent?
I pray not. I wish, he had received a Prayer of Hope.
Maybe somehow, he would have sensed and known, how much
God loves him. And he would have turned from evil.
This is my prayer, that I could help someone
    find Christ.
Will you help me, to help others?
