God had brought my husband and me to a special place, a bed and breakfast on the shores of the Guadalupe River in Texas. After 30 years in ministry, we were on sabbatical, taking as a good friend put it, our jubilee time!
In my study of the Psalms, I was at Psalm 23 that morning. “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul.”
Suddenly that word picture became very clear to me. Here I sat, in a rocking chair on the porch, looking across the meadow down to the river. God wanted me to sit still long enough to restore my soul!
I am a person who is always doing something or several things at once, often too busy to allow God my shepherd to lead me to those quiet waters where He wants to make me lie down. Instead, I kick and squirm much like a small child being led to bed for a much-needed nap.
“Not yet, Lord. There are things to do, needs to be met, promises to keep. I don’t have time to lie down.”
“Trust me my child, I know what’s best,” He replies.
I knew that He had brought me to this place, for such a time as this. Will you allow Him today to lead you to such a place of quiet rest, so that He can restore your soul?
