“I put my praise music on for the two hour drive and I had such a refreshing time with the Lord! I came back with fresh perspective!”
My friend lives a busy life! Young kids, ministry that never seems to be done, bills, school taxi, mentoring, friendships, small group, and so on. You know what it’s like when the day just seems to over run the clock.
Yet my friend found a key to refreshing. It is the key of being active in making small decisions daily that draw her closer to the God she loves and to a freshness in her soul!
We don’t intend for it to happen but somehow a passiveness creeps into our busy Christian’s lives. We do ministry, we pray on the run, we read when we get a minute, we encourage where we can, we drop our tithe in the offering…and we slip into a passive relationship with Jesus. We begin to expect Him to do the job of drawing near to us.
Judy phoned yesterday and told me now she had been asking God to work in her home. Finally she determined to grab hold of God in a fresh way. She chose to “drag” herself out of bed a half hour early and get into His presence daily. At first it was just routine, even dry, and she nearly didn’t crawl out of her warm bed. But as she asked God to speak to her, the scripture began to be alive again. She was excited about her journey! She was being refreshed!
God makes a promise: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). What do you need to do today, this week, to actively choose your relationship with Jesus over the many important and busy tasks that call for your attention? He longs to bring freshness to your soul!
Prayer: Father God, today I want to make the choice to become active in pursuing You. Help me to choose time in Your presence and music that inspires; to invite You into every decision. Show me what fruit of the Spirit You want to cultivate in my life today. Show me what’s on Your heart. Give me the desire to choose to pray in a quiet place and not just on the run. Teach me Father, and refresh my soul as I draw near to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
Questions to Ponder and Discuss: How does passivity creep into our spiritual lives? What are its effects? How can you be more intentional in your cultivating your relationship with God?

GODS WILL BE DONE NOT MINE
Another Beautiful devotional to encourage us all to spend more time in “His Presence”. As we pull away from the cares and concerns of this world..and they are very real, too…We find HIS Peace! The enemy of our souls delights in times that we become so busy, we don’t take the refreshment in the Lord. I’ll be 64 this December..and the older I get, the more He allows me to see how much more there is to learn..how much more I need to grow! Each one of you precious ladies who share on here a gift! Was so touched by the Pastor’s wives..one needing a special touch to deal with heartbreak..another, very busy, reaching out to encourage and hug..and others doing the same thing, daily! You are each so special! And the very fact that you read these enlightening tools from the Lord each day? Shows your desire to know Him more and more. These stops in our day to read and grow so wonderful! And the author of this devotional said a great thing..As we grow close to Him, He draws close to us! One small refreshment in the day makes all the difference! God bless each and every one of you! Some going through harder things than others..but all with a “heart for the Lord”! The enemy of our souls wants us to become so busy there’s not time for His refreshment, but His Holy Spirit..nudges us back to THE most important time of our day..filling up in HIM! At the Christian bookstore where I worked for three years in my 50′s? I discovered that one amall bit of His Word in a book, on a card, on a plaque was so powerful and drew folks to Him! Imagine what time set aside in our days to “fill up” can do!!!! Have a GREAT day and prayers going UP for us all!!!
