In toys we trust?

Written by erin

rattle.JPGWell-known toy company Mattel issued a massive toy recall on 9 million items on Tuesday–a move that not only made headlines, but was passed through the phone lines too. Lead paint was used to manufacture the toys, which is a severe safety risk and violates numerous codes.

I was at my friend Alison’s house for dinner when her mother called to let her know about the recall. She knew that Alison’s son plays with little toys like the ones she saw on the news–little toy cars and other dinky toys–and was concerned. Alison’s mom couldn’t remember which toys in particular were recalled, but she figured that it would be better to be safe than sorry and get rid of a bunch of toys just in case.

Over the last week, we’ve heard more and more about the Mattel recall. An MSNBC article noted, “In full-page ads in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today on Tuesday, Mattel said it has “one of the most trusted names with parents” and was “working extremely hard to address your concerns and continue creating safe, entertaining toys for you and your children.””

Mattel has announced the massive recall in an attempt to “do the right thing”. But does doing the right thing pay off? They will lose millions of dollars and their good name. What is the point of doing the right thing if bad things happen to you because of it? Or is doing something you know is right worth it just because you know it’s right?

What do you think? What does it mean to have integrity and if having integrity means losing everything, is it worth it? If nobody knows about it, is it still wrong?

I once read an article and someone defined honesty as:Honesty is not just saying the truth when asked but it is being truthful at all times. Or honesty is not only the supply of the truth at demand in the market but also the production of the truth in all production processes in the factory.
1.Integrity is internal greatness- it’s ensuring you maintain and retain true internal peace and happiness in all your endeavour.
2.It may not be easy but it is inevitably worth it. And it is definitely easier practicing than its contemporaries sauch as mediocrity, dishonesty, lying etc.
3.Yes, what is wrong is still wrong whether in the secret or in the open. Secondly there almost nothing you do outside your knowing, and there is absolutely nothing you do outside God’s knowing. Hence someone always knows every of our single deeds.
