Who Is In Charge

Written by Dorothy Brown

**Why is there tragedy and suffering? http://militarylives.com/questions/toughquest1.html

by Marilyn Ehle

“The Lord reigns… Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity” (Psalm 93:1-2).

The diagnosis is cancer. Earthquakes crumble whole villages. Tribal wars devastate a country. A teenager is jailed for drug possession. A secure job is lost. Long-held dreams evaporate. Our worlds seem to collapse.

As Jesus sent out His disciples into the world — “like lambs among wolves”–so He sends us out into both private and public worlds in which there is sadness, decay and disaster. We have the choice to fix our eyes on events, people and circumstances or claim by faith Jesus’ words in the midst of those circumstances: “Do not let your hearts be troubled…Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you…I am with you always”.

As we resolve to be obedient to “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to God,” we find the promise is true: “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds.”

The challenge is always before me: will I trust the One in charge?

Questions to ponder: So, who is in charge of your life? Do you find that you become fearful when something comes up that you perhaps are not prepared for?

  • Michelle says:

WOW! This hits home for me. Does anyone know where in the bible I can find the passages that were mentioned? Thanks!

  • Suki says:

Wow – how these devotionals can relate to what’s happening in your life! My hustband’s best friend died suddenly yesterday and he is inconsoleable. He is not a believer! I pray for peace for him and the words to console him. The question today “will I trust the One in charge?” – not easy but something I have to do. I need Him and love Him and I know He is always there – I pray that some day my husband will feel the same.

  • sharon says:

suki i will be much in prayer for your husband and his friends family i will keep praying to that your husband will come to God
    blessyou
    sharon

  • Suki says:

Sharon – thank you – for your kind words and your prayers. My family and my friends and my church all pray for my husband’s salvation. Thank you again. God bless you. Suki

  • Fran D. says:

    Dear Suki,

joining my prayers to Sharon and believing for your husband, too! Acts 16:31 in place, too! And your and your church family’s prayers will be answered, too! Believing, Suki, that the Lord will take the saddness of the friend’s earthen loss and draw your husband close. I don’t know the gentleman’s age. But Isaiah 57:1 powerful when a younger person called early. And this jumps out for your husband, too! “The Lord is near to the broken-hearted, and saves the crushed in spirit” Psalm 34:18.

What a strong devotional again today! His “Peace” can reign in us no matter what is happening all around us. The beautiful Words in John 14:27 and Philippians 4:6,7 help during these unexplainable earthen times of sorrow, etc. I love the Powerful Philippians 4:4 where HE implors us to Rejoice. And again I say Rejoice. And, out of the worst of human times, HE will cause something for us “to” rejoice about. teach us in the process, and bring us to JOY in the morning again (Psalm 30:5). Amen and Amen.

  • Linda B says:

Every time I take my eyes off Jesus I become focused on the World.

Every time I talk to him about events eeople places and things. He always reminds me to keep my gaze upward. Not into myself or out at the world.
Recently I have experienced growth and peace through finally doing I have been asked. The gap between what I can do myself and what I can achieve with the Lord has become a chasm.
But by taking his hand I can take that leap of faith.
These meditations and the responses certainly get me thinking.

  • Wendy Walters says:

I have known the Lord for over 20 years, but feel like my life is not progressing, I often feel as though I am wasting my life. I am so lonely and wish I could find the peace that everyone talks about. Please pray for me that I find a church where I can have the friends I desire and find the peace that seems to elude me. I am at time so low, that going to be and not waking up sometimes seems an option.
I have just had a knee reconstruction, my eldest son is on drugs and wont talk to me, my daughter lives on the other side of Australia, and I have a 15 year old son, who I worry is getting into trouble, I am a single mum, who has stuggled to bring up my children, work full time and at the risk of sounding like a whinger, I am so tired sometimes of always having to do it all.

    I am so lost

  • sharon says:

wendy i will be praying for you. you are not alone as long as you haveThe Lord and all of us here bless you
    sharon

  • Luradine says:

    Hi Wendy,
I just want to reassure you that even though you feel down and alone, you are not alone. God is faithful to His Word “Never will I forsake or leave you” Hebrews 13:5. When I am feeling down I speak Psalm 23 and Psalm 63 out loud. Declaring that the Lord is my Shepherd and I shall not want also that the Lord has been my help in the past gives me strength to go through. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord and don’t lean on your own understanding and God will make your path straight. I join you in prayer: that God will lead you to a Christ-centered, Bible- teaching church where you can unite with other believers in prayer and worship. I pray for healing of your knee from surgery. I pray for deliverance of your son from his addiction. I pray for reconnection with your daughter in Australia and for wisdom and protection for your 15 y.o. son. Always remember that “Nothing is too hard for God to handle! Jeremiah 32:17. Begin to thank and praise God now for the blessings He is going to pour out for you. Praising God confuses the evil one and lifts your spirit and gives you the victory at the same time. Be persistent and be blessed.

  • Fran D. says:

    Dear Wendy,

Just read and agree with the two powerful Prayer Warriors above about your situation. What Luradine said is soooo true, too! “Nothing is too hard for God” Heremiah 32:17..and HE is the “Mountain Mover”, too, Mark 11:23-24..Prayers and love with you this night!

  • Fran D. says:

    Correction …”Jeremiah 32:17″!!!!

  • jackie says:

Ladies I am praying for each of your request.
Wendy; God will take care of you ,nothing is to hard for God.Luradine is so right start praising and thanking him now. There have been times in my life when I didn’t know which way was up, and I would thank God for things in my life That i didn’t have yet,But asked for. Some people even thought I’d lost my mind at times because I believed so strongly that God would come through, and he has everytime. One of my driveways stayed empty for a while, I wouldn’t let anyone park there because that was for the car I needed, prayed for and knew God would send me.and he did. They don’t think I’m crazy anymore because God has always came through and he always will.Because he loves us .Hang in there, and wait upon the Lord.
((your in my prayers and so are your children))

It’s 10:00pm and I have just sat down to read the devotion for today..after talking to my husband his heart is very heavy and I can see the worry in his eyes, we are on the breaking point of losing a business money is no longer there to make payments, and we have’nt had a buyer interested in mounths…and my words to him were to put his trust in God he knows what we need when we need it…and then I sit down to this devotion!!!Thank you Lord for hearing us before we even ask help us to always keep our eyes on you even when things seem hopeless.

  • sharon says:

yes nothing is to hard for God

    sharon

  • Nancy says:

Suki and Wendy my heart goes out to you both. I know God hears your prayers and sees your hearts. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is our very help in trouble. Trust in him and he will give you the desires of your hearts. Even if you can just call on his name he knows what you need. God bless you both and I will keep you both in my prayers.

  • Fran D. says:

    Dear Maia,

Prayers are with you, too! And may his peace..Philippians 4:6-7 rule today for you and your husband in this serious matter. HE owns “all the cattle on the 1,000 Hills”..Am believing for one to sell to meet this need to overflowing for you…Ephesians 3:20. Bless you and know you are lifted by many that read here. I read daily and “pray” and know am prayed for, too! Amen!

  • Fran D. says:

    Maia,

“All the cattle on the 1,000 Hills” from Psalm 50:10..Am praying that for miracles here, too! HE will answer in HIs own way and timing, too!

  • maia says:

    Fran,
Thank you so much for the scriptures and prayer..It’s nice to know that there is someone out there praying and believeing on our behalf, please pray that my husband will have peace, he feels like he has failed as the provider in the family..I have marked the scripture you gave me in my bible and I will read it everyday, thank you again!

  • Fran D. says:

    Dear Maia,

The Lord spoke in my heart when reading your comments..and I know HE is with you and your husband. We have gone through a similar thing..and can “relate” and tell you that no matter how things “look in the natural”?! In the “Spirit” we are Victorious already..HE is with you (and us) and will bring us all through, too !! Others on here have seen me write many times recently the wonderful, uplifting verses from Isaiah 35:6 and you are probably familiar with them. But this GREAT Father who can “make water gush in the wilderness” and cause “streams in the desert” can help us, too! Amen!! In recent days, we are all calling out Jeremiah 32:17, too! NOTHING is too hard for our God!!! Stand on that Promise, dear Maia! And? The fact that HE tells us in Hewbrews 13:5 (This hangs in our family rule here..a gift from my husband for courage here!)..”He will never leave nor forsake Thee”!!!! AMEN!

Tonight I lift up your husband to the Throneroom and that he will realize his value in our Lord, too. Mine went through that, too..But I tell him all the time he is a “prince” to our Lord, just as you and I are “princesses”! We are HIS Beloved children ..and it is what “Abba Daddy” thinks of us that truly counts! There are absolute prayer warriors at this comment site, dear Maia, and we will all BELIEVE for your husband and you and your precious family..for a better day in this situation..and for peace for all of you as He brings you through!!! We pray the Promises daily here..and Peace comes flooding in! And HE will do that for your situation, too! Hope you hae a ‘Promise Book’…We whip ours out when the attacks come..It helps! They even have them in the book racks in the groceries, if you are able to get one. Tremendous daily uplifts!!

Just read your daughter’s strong comments you shared on today’s devotional. You are raising children for HIM! Hallelujah..and you know what? I bet HE is smiling right now, too, about that. Amazing for 7 young years..and says “chapters” about your family!! (((((((Maia, husband and family)))))))

Love and Prayers across the miles..and others on here will be lifting! Their prayers hold me up, too! :)

  • Nancy says:

Dear Maia I am sorry I missed your comment on here last time I was here. And you are right God knows what we need before we even ask. He is in control. I will keep you as I do all the ladies on here in my prayers. God please you and may he give you and your husband peace that passes all understanding. God bless you and keep trusting in him.

  • Nancy says:

    correction God bless you

  • maia says:

    Nancy and Fran,
You will never know how much your comments and words of wisdom mean to me..Thank you so much for the prayers I have been marking all the scriptures in my bible you are giving me, some have already been marked but I went back over them and hilighted them! The words “To whom much is given much is required” keeps going through my mind and I know I haven’t trusted God by giving EVERYTHING back to him so all I know to do is start a new day tomarrow and pray that he will give us direction. We have four children and things seem to be streached very thin latley including my paitences..and I know that through this they watch how we handel things and to whom we turn so pray that not only I continue to trust but I also use this to teach my three boys and my little girl to trust..Thank you again girls I hope you have a great afternoon!

  • Wendy Walters says:

Thank you so much for all your messages, I am thankful that there are people out there who care :)
