Many homes are in a state of “civil war.” Sometimes we condition our families to not even acknowledge requests until voices are raised. Home is often not the sanctuary it should be from the world outside our door. Relationships are strained and schedules limit times to actually connect. The day-to-day clutter can distance us from those we love the most.
What can we do to refuel the relationships within the walls of our homes?
Make a point to pay attention to the state of the relationships in your life. To keep a good relationship alive or to boost a relationship that feels shaky here are four very simple tips.
Ask God to help you as you make the first move to KEEP the peace within your walls.
K…Kindness. A little kindness goes a long way. Find one small act of kindness to do for the relationship you want to refuel. Make it a daily habit to simply…be kind.
E…Enjoy. Stop for a moment and make a decision to recall to your mind something that endeared this person to you. Let them know you like having them in your life.
E…Encourage. Look for some small way to say a word of encouragement to the one whose relationship you wish to refuel. Listen with your ears and with your heart and offer a word that can lift the spirit.
P…Polite. Use your manners. So often in our own homes we simply stop being polite and giving the small courtesies we give even to strangers. Take your manners home with you and make an effort to be polite.
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32).
