Little Choices

**Are you feeling ready to walk away from a relationship – are you possibly even considering divorce? We want to pray for you. Please email us at: http://www.familylifecanada.org/index.php?page_id=112

The tiny wrinkles around my eyes seemed to appear almost overnight. One day I was very aware of them and knew I had better get that eye cream I was hearing about. I’d better try the “triple action”! I was amazed at the results…and in such a short time! This was good.

The waistband on my jeans felt tight. Could it be those wonderful cappuccinos I was regularly enjoying? I was amazed at the results… and in such a short time! This was not good.

I didn’t like the sand paper edge that seemed to spring up in a friendship of mine. I asked the Lord for patience and grace to bite my tongue. I was amazed at the results… and in such a short time! This was good.

Little decisions or changes peppered throughout the day push the edge of results to the negative or the positive.

It’s the same in your spiritual journey. Little changes… conscious little choices that push your walk with God in one direction or another. Little choices to let God in or to hold Him at a distance. Little choices of attitude; little choices of purity in thoughts or choices of entertainment. Little choices. Invite Him into them. You will be amazed at the results… and in such a short time!

“Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a right spirit within me”
(Psalm 51:10).

This New Years don’t make grand resolutions that will fade in a few short weeks. Choose daily to let God be a part of the little choices…choose to be amazed …and in such a short time!

~Heavenly Father,

Thank you that You can create what is right and good in this heart of mine that often struggles with the little daily choices. Thank you that I can count on You to renew a right attitude within me. I am not making grand New Year’s resolutions that will fade, but I am asking You to help me make the right daily choices in the little things of life. I want to be changed in this New Year. I want You to renew right attitudes in me daily. Amaze me with the results, Father, as You guide me in the small things of my day. Thank you that I can face this New Year with freshness and anticipation because You are holding my hand! You will help me in the little things of my life. For this I give You my praise! In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Gracious heavenly Father, we thank You and praise You that You have invited us to come before You with the concerns of our hearts, and You have promised to exchange our burdens for Your peace. In obedience, we lift up our precious sister, ToniG, who has been so discouraged with the circumstnaces surrounding her brother’s failing health and the family discord, and who now battles the flu and its exhausting impact on her, and we ask that You visit her with Your comforting Spirit, and grant her rest of spirit and body. She needs Your strength, Father, as she faces such difficult days. Heal her physically, that You may fortify her spiritually. We ask in Jesus’ most precious, holy name, Amen!

Hi Ladies I am so glad that I have the Lord to ask to help me with lifes little choices. This devotional is what I told the Lord I am going to do. That is get closer to God and live my life more for him. And not to worry about past mistakes. May God bless and keep each one of you in this New Year. Nancy

  • Brenda says:

I would like to wish everyone a blessed Happy New year.
As Michelle said, I don’t always know how to get closer to God and seek Him. I will try as this devotional says, to choose to involve Him in every decision, action, and thought. I, too, need to lose weight and I know that I can only do that with His help.

  • Patti says:

Judy, I love the quote of Erma Bombeck….thank you for sharing that with all of us.

Another thing I want to add to the things I want to do this year…and that is to spend more time in the Word and in prayer. What a privilege we have to be able to pray for others…..for one another… and to see our prayers answered is such a faith builder!

This New Year Day, I am feeling very different than I usually feel on this day. In years past, I have allowed fear to come upon me, fearing and wondering what or who I would lose in the coming year. Today, I feel so encouraged and excited. I look forward to all God is going to do in my life and am excited the new things that will be accomplished toward His Kingdom.

I sense a newness in my heart,a brokenness, a tenderness and that the Lord is calling me to renew my vow to serve Him…to rededicate my life to Him and to be willing toward whatever purpose or way He can use me.

Thank you Jesus….for loving me, for saving me, for putting these Godly women in my path and drawing me back to you. I praise you for these laides, for your unconditional love and give you all the Glory and Honor…

Also, to Marilyn….A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  • Linda C says:

Thank you all for your warm welcomes. It is a pleasure to be part of all this. I will call myself “Linda C” from now on.

Judy, Ilove the quote from Erma Bombeck. thank you for sharing it.

  • Judy D says:

Happy New Year, dear sisters in Christ.

Thank you, again, Gail, for another devotional which speaks to our hearts. . . to my heart.

Small steps . . . one foot in front of the other . . . it seems not earth-shaking, but it impacts lives. Our own and the people around us.

You asked: What decisions are you facing today that will make a difference in a particular relationship?

I suppose that would be the resolutions I am making and the relationship would be with God.
They are: 1) to daily read God’s work and pray, 2)to use my talents for Him and 3) . . . . well, I am still pondering what #3 will be. I was thinking the same as Patti listed . . . to start memorizing again. Because of my stroke and short-term memory issues I have stayed away from that, but I think I am ready to start. I have had to learn so many things over and I think I am ready to try memorization now.

I recently read a quote on a placque in a magazine by Erma Bombeck, which I like. It goes like this:

“When I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that I would have not a single bit of talent left and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.”

That is what I would like to do. To be aware of my talents and obediently use them as the Holy Spirit directs daily.

  • JoyB says:

I was typing when LindaR wrote, so glad you are feeling better, I have been praying for you, I haven’t commented for a while as I have been installing a new anti-virus…….nothing like it to test “all” my patience!!

  • CHRIS says:

I AM GOING TO TAKE THIS BLOC AND WISH EVERY ONE A VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY, BLESSED NEW YEARS. GOD WILLING IT WILL BE EVERYTHING WE ALL WANT IT TO BE.
    HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE
    CHRIS. T.

  • Fran D. says:

Michelle! We were writing at same time and want to thank you for your sincere, beautiful words above! You are a treasure and a blessing to us all! (((Michelle)))

  • Kim says:

Wow! God continues to confirm this concept of following Him with every decision. It definitely needs to come out of a daily renewal of my mind and a daily (perhaps hourly) recommitment and reminder that this life is not my own to live for my own selfish desires but that simple daily choices can make a profound change in the lives of others around me (my story from yesterday is a great example of that).

Patti– I really want to encourage you and pray for you as I can relate to having a husband with a low self-esteem. It can be so hard when my husband “retreats” or is so passive in his daily life that I start to feel so much more powerful and in control and capable. I pray for Patti to be praying daily for her husband and that her responses and interactions with him will communicate love and encouragement and not be condescending or cutting. Thank you Jesus for knowing what our husbands need. I pray that we all seek you in our daily choices with our husbands and kids. What a difference having you as the guide of our tongues and attitudes will make!

  • Linda says:

Marilyn, thank you fo rthose wonderful words of encouagement. You have blessed me today.

  • Marilyn says:

Linda, Joyce Meyer would do well to learn of you!! You are a such a beautiful reflection of God, and your heart for Him is full of the fruits of His Spirit, ripened and fragrant! Eighty pounds lighter or heavier, you are precious to Him, and to all of us who are privileged to know you!! May His glorious light continue to shine through you, dear sister! :)

  • Patti says:

There are several small changes I want to make in my life. First of all, I want to be an encourager to my husband. He lacks self-confidence and I am the one who needs to build him up….as he can do so many things. He is a perfectionist and is hard on himself.

Secondly, I want to get into a Ladies Bible Study. I feel the need to learn and grow from Godly women…the kind I learn and grow from on this site.

Thirely, I want to begin memorizing scripture once again…so that I have it at my fingertips when facing a difficult situation or when someone else needs a word.

And last, I want to be to my husband what he wants. The way I look is very important to him and I have allowed excess weight to come onto me. He wants to be proud when he walks beside me as he once was, and I need to set that goal to do as much as I can.

I can do none of these things without the Lord’s help and I desire Him to be at the front and center of my life this New Year.

Thank you Jesus, for lovingly comming into my life that one dark night and for keeping me through many trials. Thank you for the many blessings and joys , and may those blessings and joys spread throughout lives of the other ladies on this site an beyond.

    In your most Holy Name……

  • Adrienne says:

Gail – thanks for reminding us that it is the little things which can make so much difference. At the beginning to last year at church we were encouraged to commit ourselves to doing one small thing for others for the year, and I have not forgotten that – it has changed my life, and I hope has had a effect on those around. These little changes can really mean such a lot to others and to ourselves – I heartily recommend it and will be trying to change something else small this year too!

  • CHRIS says:

    GAIL,
GOOD DEVOTIONAL TODAY, SINCE I DON’T NORMALLY MAKE RESELTIONS, I THINK THIS YEAR I WILL MAKE 2 AND REALLY TRY TO STICK TO THEM.
    1) TO WORK ON MY SPIRITAL WILL BEING, GETTING CLOSER TO GOD,
    2) TO GETTING INTO THE COUNSOLING SEASIONS I SO BAFLY NEED.
