Miuccia Prada, famous Italian fashion designer, recently created headlines after a long list of rules for her office workers was released. The list was criticized as being harsh.
According to the National Post, a few of the rules include: "Desk and work surfaces should be clean and uncluttered. Pictures, calendars, etc. should not be taped to cubicle/office walls. Pets may not be brought to the corporate office or the store. For corporate employees, all coats should be hung in the appropriate coatroom and not kept in offices or hung over cubicle walls. Window shades should be even (either completely up or completely down) throughout one side of the floor. Items may not be placed on the window sills. . . . In addition, it is important to take a break from your workday and enjoy your lunch. Therefore, absent extenuating circumstances, lunch may not be eaten at your desk."
Another leader is also making the news for having too many rules. Robert Mugabe, the infamous ruler of Zimbabwe, is being criticized for keeping the country under such a tight rule that he won’t even allow them to vote him out. He has tight control over what goes on in the country, and according to the National Post, people are afraid of what he’ll do if things don’t go his way.
When do rules become a bad thing? Should leaders be criticized for having rules and sticking to them? Or are leaders who are more relaxed more respected?
