Gang violence: Where do I belong?

Written by erin

We hear about it all the time. Whether it is in a school, a house, a mall or even out on the street, gun violence is a scary reality in our world. The National Post recently reported on a gang-related shooting that happened in Toronto, sparking conversation about gang violence.

An expert stated that the number of young people who are joining gangs is increasing, with an estimated 11,000 to 14,000 gang members under the age of 21. That’s almost doubled from the estimate of 7,000 gang members under the age of 21 six years ago in 2002.
Last month, a 15-year-old street gang member was charged in a triple murder at a house party in Winnipeg. What is going on that kids are getting involved in crime and murder?

Are gangs all about peer pressure? Why are kids joining gangs in the first place? Do gangs fulfill a need for people to belong?

i am very afraid of guns. i have not had experances with gangs PTL but have had bad esperances with guns. one of my cousins who i am very close to was shot by her brotherinlaw when we were in our 20s and she was pregnet thank God she lived and so did the baby but shae has to wear a brace on one of her legs and has a lot of problems with pain that will never go away. and when i was younger my first husband pulled a gun on me and was going to shot me and my 2 babies thank God for sending a wonderful neighbor to help. guns are a danger to people if put in the wrong hands.
