To Be Politically Correct or Politically Incorrect: That is the question

Gingerbread Persons“This isn’t cheating! I like to think of it as finding creative ways to win.” Yelped my co-worker as accusations flew at her across the room. I laugh at her choice of words as I make my way to my desk and wonder at the wide expanse of PC (politically correct) terms increasing in volume every day. It seems that more and more increasingly, to not use the most politically correct term available is likely to get you labeled as ignorant or narrow-minded.

In today’s culture of partners, blended families and differently-abled individuals, the question begs to be asked: Have our original hopes of nourishing inclusively by welcoming self-identification gone sour? Has the law of unintended consequences caused these labels to become a muddle of categories that create unnecessary systems of division instead of giving minorities a needed voice?

Do you identify with any certain group or label? How important is this identification to you? Did you choose it or was it something you feel you were forced into?
