Knowing and Enjoying God

** Are you enjoying your relationship with God today? http://thelife.com/study/knowjesuspersonally.html

“The people who know their God will be strong and do great exploits” (Daniel 11:32).

When the Lord began to open my eyes to the importance of knowing God, I started to study His attributes and names. I learned many great truths about God and was tremendously blessed. One of the things I learned on the way was that according to the Westminster catechism, our main reason for being is to “glorify God and to enjoy Him forever”. I didn’t know that.

About that time in my spiritual journey, God sent a young man to live with us for several months. He talked a lot about enjoying God. Following his example, I began to make it a habit to enjoy my relationship with God more.  I invited Him into every part of my day-not just when I had my quiet time and not just when I had a challenge I needed His help on.

Gradually, I began to change. Instead of my relationship with God consisting of just asking for things, I began to discuss everything with Him. I began thanking Him everywhere — when I drove the car, when I went for a walk, at work, when I went shopping – anytime, anywhere. Talking to God all day long became a habit-a good habit.

amen, this was a good reminder not to just ‘ask God for stuff,’ but also just remember to thank Him for being God! I have to remember sometimes to stop myself, and just look – at all the things He did, made. Thanks for reminding me to try to enjoy God in my life.. May I do that!

By the way, thanks for those who truly prayed for me, and have been patient with me in this journey. It’s been a while with some of you, but I have truly appreciated your prayers, and even missed some of them! Yes, it hasn’t been easy to say the least! but God knows and I am trying! May I get there, and May God bless each of you! (If you do remember me in prayer, that would be excellent). Thank you and God bless.

Dear sister Edna, thank you for sharing your beautiful, moving testimony of how our God has tenderly comforted you, guided you, and attended you during these sorrowful months following your dear husband’s passing — your witness to His faithfulness gives us all hope! Some of us are certain to face similar circumstances down the road, and it encourages us that we can trust Him to see us through those difficult times! I am so sorry for your loss, Edna, and I thank the Lord for His being your Strength and Comforter in your time of mourning. May He continue to direct your path with His light, and be your “everything!” God bless, dear Edna!

Precious Lord, we thank You that we can sing Your praises today! The joy of our salvation is a testimony to Your living Spirit within us! May we glorify You with our words and deeds this day! Today, Lord, we ask for Your divine healing for Anita’s precious son. Mend his body, we pray, that it would be completely restored, in Your perfect timing! May it be Your will to confound his doctors with Your handiwork! Guide his recovery, Lord, that it would be free of hindrances or setbacks. We ask, also, that You would grant Anita and her husband a refreshing, delightful week together, in fellowship with each other and with You! May Your blessing be upon them and may this treasured time together bind them even closer as husband and wife! Use the sweet testimony of their lives and love to draw their precious grandchildren unto You, we pray! We ask these things in Your most Holy Name, Jesus, Amen!

I believe we experience God and His goodness and friendship through each other and in the places where we honour Him together. Thank you to Katherine and the ladies who share their thoughts in this place. I have found a new group of people who love Him and are being used by Him to bless me. People are telling me how calm I am at this time and I have only the Lord to thank and His faithful ones who share His love with each other and with me.

  • VIVIAN B says:

In this season of my life, I have been so much closer to God than ever, I’ve been off work for 6 months with a blood clot in the leg. But I have recieved so much peace in God, I can hear as he directs my path, I’m secure in Him. I feel stronger, I’m able to get in the Word more. I didn’t realize how much I could experience with obstacles out the way. What comes to my mind is Romans 8:38-39 nothing can separate you from the love of Christ. I personally don’t care for religion I care for a relationship with God. He is my friend and I will trust Him wherever he leads me to go and whatever he tells me to do. I can talk to God whenever I want to, it doesn’t have to be a certain time of the day or a certain hour. Praise God we can go boldly to His throne and make our request known. God is doing a major change in my life where there is no more limits to where he wants me to be and do for the body of Christ, and all I’m doing is holding on to His promises with my hands lifted up and my mouth filled with praise. Continue to keep me in your prayers.

  • Jan says:

I can remember there was a time where I wondered if you could think of or have God on your mind too much. Just one of the things I love so much about God is when you wonder something He delights in answering your wonderings. because ALL that I read after that answered my question, NO, your mind could never be too much on Him. Sadly in recent times I have not read His word as much as i needed to, or should have but my need to know His presence is great at this time, and I am so thankful that it is not Him who moved away but me and He always welcomes us back. I am so glad and pleased that I can be with Him, and more so that He is with me. Please pray that I will not lose sight of that fact in my coming days.

  • Mugsy says:

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be fill! Matthew 5 Your right Marilyn when you thirst and hunger you allow the Holy Spirit to get more of you! and hunger to know him and his word! God is so good!
Thanks Kathryn for the devotional! I tend to ask the Lord for wisdom from him everyday! for my business at how much I should do and when I should do it! I asked him what I could do so that I could be productive and he gave me the idea of a baby basket business! He has given me ideas and I ask how many sales I should go to! and I get an answer! Praise God!

  • Marilyn says:

When I came to Christ 15 years ago, He gave me an insatiable hunger to discover all that He is, and, thus began my journey of ‘knowing and enjoying Him!’ It is an endless quest, taking us the rest of our earth-bound lives, but a glorious adventure and privileged calling! We shall never know Him fully until we are face-to-face with our Lord, but He beckons us to study Him, explore Him, enjoy Him, and follow Him, through the work and power of His Spirit in us! How deep and wide is the love of Jesus . . . may we spend the rest of our lives discovering and enjoying it!
