World’s Oldest Man Dies (Age: 129-139?)

Written by Darren Hewer

Empty chair Mr Habib Mian of India, widely recognized as the world’s oldest man, has died. Reports differ about just how old he was:

According to records Habib was born on May 28, 1870. The Limca Book of World Records recognizes him as the oldest living man in the world in its 2005 edition. But the Guinness Book of Records did not give him this recognition because his pension papers say he was born on May 20, 1878 at Rajgarh in Alwar district. [Source: The Daily Mail]

Regardless of his exact age, we can agree that anything over 100 is really old. Here’s some things that didn’t exist when Mr Mian was born:

Coca-Cola, zippers, motion pictures, vacuum cleaners, crayons, airplanes, Band-Aids, TVs, penicillin, ballpoint pens, microwaves, credit cards, computers, and myriad of other fantastic inventions. Suffice to say, the world has changed a lot since then! [Source: About.com Inventions]

But has the world really changed that much? Or, as one ancient philosopher put it, is there really “nothing new under the sun”? When you look at your life, would you be happy to live as long as Mr. Main? And do you ever think about the question: What if your life were to end sooner rather than later?
