Angels Watching over Us
by Doris Beck
**Are you in a situation today that makes you wonder whether God is really there? We have people ready to listen to you if you would like to talk about it. http://thelife.com/interactive/ask.html
“The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (Ps 121:8).
The flight had been smooth over clear skies and thousands of miles. We had marveled at God’s amazing creation as we flew over snow – capped mountains, a masterpiece hand-painted by the Creator Himself. We had even arrived at our next destination over 30 minutes early.
But now our plane was literally parked on the tarmac while we waited for the maintenance crew to look at an ‘anomaly’ on the nose gear, according to the pilot. The entire planeload waited in an almost pregnant pause, wondering what it could be.
Of course it would take a while for them to get to us and take a look so we were assured that there was no reason to panic and we were still ahead of schedule.
The next time the pilot spoke to use there was surprise in her voice.
“Well folks, it looks like we lost a wheel from our nose gear somewhere between Seattle and Dallas! We landed on just one instead of two!!”
Now there was a buzz among the passengers. How could that be? It was such a smooth landing! Did they know ahead of time? Everyone had a question of their own. We would have to wait to deplane until they stabilized the front of the plane and brought out stairs and buses to take all of us passengers to the terminal.
I looked at my husband and told him what I thought had happened when we landed. So many people were praying for us, for safety as we traveled to see our daughter. I believe God sent angels to watch over us and steady the front of the plane as we balanced on just one wheel instead of two. He truly had watched over our coming and going.
Do you believe that today? God is never surprised by the things that happen in our lives. He hasn’t forgotten us but instead He is always watching over us.
~Dear Heavenly Father,
Forgive me when I assume that You are no longer watching over me. Help me to remember that You always know everything that is happening in my life and You are never surprised. Remind me today of these truths as I put my trust in You. Amen.
Questions: Have you ever doubted that God was truly watching over you? Why did you doubt it? What helps you to remember these truths?

Thanks Ladies for your encouraging comments! It is always a blessing when others are blessed as I share something God has reminded me of. This actually happened a couple of years ago and God reminded me about it during the summer …. that I hadn’t shared it with all of you. So it served as a reminder to me as well, that God is indeed watching over us regardless of whether we are walking in the ‘sonshine’ or in the storm.
Oh Loreli, I do understand, very much! For many years, I struggled with trusting God with the safe-keeping of our children! I had trusted Him with everything else, but I was somehow unconvinced that His grace would cover our children’s safety, particularly that of our wandering child! But, as God has proven Himself trustworthy time and time again, I have learned to release them to Him, knowing that He is far more capable than we, at keeping watch over them and protecting them. Understanding that our role as parents is to encourage the gradual development of independence in our children, I have had to place alot of faith in God for balancing my protective instincts with promoting healthy teenage/young adult development! God is so patient and understanding with us parents!! ;)
Marilyn, It is so good to be undestood. Bless your mother’s heart and bless you for ministering to me
Janie, I’ve not ever heard that we humans have command over the angels assigned to us — do you have a Scripture reference for that? It has been my understanding that only God has command over the angels, whom He sends as ministering spirits and messengers to His children on Earth. While we are surely blessed by their serving us, I believe it is God Who assigns them and has authority over them.
Hi Loreli! Praise God that your sons and their friends are OK! :) That scary experience may prove a useful one, as the fear it instilled may produce extra caution on the road! I have a 19-year-old son, who went out-of-state on a 3 1/2 month internship this summer, several states away. This took a big step of faith for this mother, but God proved Himself trustworthy again!! :) Our son, too, was involved in an almost-accident, which shook him up alot! Going a little too fast (he says 40MPH) on a country road, he and an on-coming vehicle almost collided, and he spun around a couple times (praise God that no other cars were coming!), and ran off the road into a field! Hay was everywhere, but our son was not injured. I believe this got his attention, more than the frequent reminders of his concerned parents! As I started to “lecture” him on his driving, he gently assured me that this experience ‘took him to school!” God knows our ‘mother hearts,’ and He pours out His grace and mercy on them each and every day! Praise His Holy Name!
Doris-great encouraging devo. Let me tell you ladies last night was incredibly hard for me. We had gone on a little weekend trip with a friend from church and another set of friends to take Bev a sweet lady with cancer to get away. It was the first time we had left our seventeen old son and fifteen old son home alone(I know we don’t leave them hardly ever). They decided to ride home with friends instead of doing what we had asked them. My fifteen year old was involved in a minor wreck (of course to this Mom’s heart it was anything but minor). They were fine but scared and had to be pulled out of a ditch, no drinking or anything like that, just lost control on a gravel road. Of course I prayed for theirs and our safety during each day but it really showed me that even though I was three hours from them God was the one who took control when I could not be there to make sure everyone did as told. God is Faithful!!!!!!!!!
Doris, thanks for a great devotional and wonderful reminder that God is on 24/7 alert over each of us. Romel, I loved what you wrote; that when He blesses His children, others are blessed, too. That statement made my day…the moment I read it I felt a spirit of praising rising in my soul (Sorry, I don’t know how else to describe it..) Blessings to all! :)
God sure knows how to care for us! My own experience with taking a unexpected trip over the hood of a car had angel written all over it. And each time we see his hand in our lives, we are blessed beyond belief. Sure is nice to get to know our Lord even better through each touch of His hand, each landing, each moment we are here. We are so blessed by his love for us, and so many times I have not seen how he has worked his wonder in my life. I pray we can each find peace in our hearts as we come before our Lord Jesus and thank Him for his sacrifice for us.
Awesome and thanks Doris for reminding us again of God’s ministring spirits always watching over us the Heirs of salvation.Personally I have seen angels sent to me on assignment and I marvel at the amazing love that God has for His Children. My prayer is that we will always remember that our angels are at attention waiting on us to give the command and they will obey!
Good morning, Romel and other dear sisters! I join you, Romel, in praising our God for His goodness and faithful watch-care over us!! Doris, what an awesome faith-builder — thank you for sharing it with us! I just love how our God manifests His greatness and glory through His divine intervention on behalf of His children, and His Kingdom agenda! Thank You, Father, for being Who You are, and for loving us, despite what we are!
Hooorrrayyy!!!! Yayyyyy! Oh Doris, you made me dance this morning. Thanks for sharing. Praying to GOD to send HIS angels to watch over my inheritance, myself and all HIS children, especially HIS servants all over the world is a part of my daily prayer. I can relate so many stories in my personal experiences how GOD had spared my life many times.. some are small events, some are huge situations.
Trully, that was a huge situation Doris and when GOD blesses us, others around us are blessed too; when HE saves us from destruction, others are saved too. HIS children really are the ones who bring blessings in this world whether we know it or not, whether we accept it or not but this is one of the purposes that HE has in HIS children that as HE spiritually bless us, others will be blessed too.
Thank YOU FATHER, LORD JESUS, HOLY SPIRIT. YOU are awesome and I worship YOU, I love YOU LORD.
Romel H
