The Presidential Race of 2008
Politics. To some it’s scary word with even scarier connotations.
What is the face of politics right now? Well, none other than the boxing match that is the American presidential election coming up November 4th. (Frankly I’ll be glad when it’s over. I was tired of hearing about it in 2006.)
I wonder if it’s all just missed the point. Usually the news hums with debate over important issues like the economy, the war in the Middle East, and the supply of that black substance that fuels our lives. Yet when it’s time to choose a leader, talk of these things falls to a hush. Instead everyone’s talking about a teen pregnancy, alleged sexist “smear campaigns” against McCain’s surprise VP bid, and who has less experience: Palin or Obama?
I know that it’s cliché by now to point fingers and focus on the cracks in government. But could this presidential campaign have eclipsed even the cynicism that so many already felt towards the government and politics? I personally think the whole process has been nauseatingly overdone – like a long, drawn-out movie where everyone’s just begging for the credits to finally roll.
To me politics is a scary word indeed.
What are your thoughts on the presidential campaign? Do you think this is all business as usual or has this presidential campaign crossed the line?
