Mountain Peaks and Regal Robes

Written by Marilyn Ehle

Do you want to live a life of significance? This Online Bible Study will help you how to do that.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” (Colossians 3:23).

If I walk just a few hundred feet from the door of our small home, the grandeur of Pikes Peak fills my eyes. Snow covered much of the year with crags jutting into brilliant blue sky the scene is breathtaking. The Creator God displays His magnificence in ways beyond my comprehension.

But then I read how God once chose and commissioned skilled artisans to create “three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms.” Men – and perhaps women -  designed regal robes of “blue, purple and scarlet yarn…of finely twisted linen” (Exodus 36 and 37).

God chooses to reveal Himself in His glory and beauty in both soaring mountain peaks and even in things like well-crafted clothing. He likewise asks that His followers be involved in both monumental world-shaping endeavors and those more hidden – but equally important – expressions of His love. The artisans of Moses’ day were “filled with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills”. Our heavenly Father is ready and willing to do the same today. He just asks for willing people to work with all their hearts, knowing that God accepts our service.

Lord, sometimes I feel as though the small things I attempt don’t matter much in the grand scope of things. Help me understand that you accept all endeavors if done in Your name and for Your glory. Amen.

Questions: What endeavors are you involved in that reveal God’s great love?  What do you see around you that reflects the Creator God’s magnificence?

marilyn, thank you for the devotional and your commitment in serving others with your wisdom.
my endeavors have been not as full as I want to be but I have been going back to church(my husband gladly takes me). the ‘shyness’ of fellowship, or the reluctance I guess one would say, is slowing fading and it’s wonderful. I am actually volunteering in the annual Christmas bizarre this year because I feel it from within to do so. i realize this isn’t earth shattering but for me it’s one day at a time in my spiritual growth.
as the weather here is changing, so is the scenery and the temperature. all the trees in my neighborhood are bare but one. this one tree is full of the fall colored leaves just waiting to drop. below there is snow now, just a dusting mind you but the contrast is God’s magnificent painting. takes the breath away, it does.

marilyn, thank you. thank you for your fellowship in this site. I trust that there is commitment in doing what you do here and it doesn’t happen with the flick of a bic.
you ask what endeavors am I involved in that reveal God’s love. the most immediate is that I have started going back to church. not every Sunday, but for me it’s a milestone in my spiritual growth. and as a result of fellowship, I am giving a helping hand, a volunteer. for me, this is a major growth(going back to church and actually wanting to help). it’s the annual Christmas bizarre and the donations and volunteers are both badly needed this year as compared to last. as I never wanted to get involved, how would I have known such a thing. as the weather here is changing from not so cold to snow this morning, and all the trees in my neighborhood are now bare, i see down the street there is one tree, standing taller than a house that refuses to let go. its brilliant colors are magnificent and i see it as God’s magnificence because it’s so alive yet wanting to rest for the winter under the blanket of snow. so it is nature that now takes my breath away, the change of the season.

I see God’s handiwork in the complexity of people and how they change when they get into his presence. The hope and joy of who he is in us overwhelmes me to the point that when I share that hope with hurting people the light comes inside them and they blossom into the vessels he wants. It’s truly amazing. I feel blessed to do the work that I do and I know it is only in his stregnth. The other day after being on crisis calls for thirteen hours I knelt by by bed and surrendered my day, I was exhausted and almost numb from the previous day. He restored me when I came into his presence and I was able to go again, kinda like the little pink energizer bunny. He is an awesome God. May his name be praised.
