Jesus Came to Bring Hope

The Christmas season gives us the opportunity to remember why Jesus came to earth.

All people were lost and separated from God by sin, but the prophets of old predicted a day when the Messiah would come.

Unable to fix our own mess, we needed someone, a Savior, who would be able to restore our relationship with God.

The New Testament writers quoted Isaiah, one of those prophets, indicating that Jesus was the one who would fulfill their hope:

“The root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him” (Romans 15:12).

“In His name the nations will put their hope” (Matthew 12:21).

Because of Jesus, we have hope.

Hope for the future, that we will be redeemed; hope for the present, that we are not alone, hope even for the past, that our failures are not greater than God’s love.

In what aspect of your life do you need hope today?

Do you feel like your daily circumstances will never change, never improve?

Do you ache for a loved one who has walked away from God?

Does a broken relationship seem irreparable?

God is the one who can change all that – Jesus came to bring you hope, not just for the future, but for today. Rather than trusting in ourselves, let us put our hope in Him.

God, I pray Paul’s prayer for everyone reading this today. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

Questions: Why is hope essential for us? Many lose hope over the Christmas season – who can you share the hope of Jesus with this year?

wow, thank you so much for this message. amen, we need to have hope. please lift up a prayer for me, as I am continuing to try to figure out what God wants me to do in various areas of my life, and really praying for the right, godly fellowship that I need in my life. Thank you so much.
I heard the quote ‘Hope is the Christian’s best friend,’ and that is so true. Thanks so much for the reminder, that we need to hope, and not only that but also providing a biblical reference to it. The devotionals are often timely, and I need hope to not be discouraged! I pray God helps us to continue to hope in Him. In Christ, Amen!

Without hope it is difficult to have faith and trust in the good Lord. With these things, we know in our hearts that He will always see us through any and all situations.
