“Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You” (Psalm 9:10).
I’ve known some dark days recently, days that are like unending nights. Fear is overwhelming. Hope is dim. The sun doesn’t shine.
In times like these, God becomes my only refuge. The problems are too great for me to naively assume I can fix them. The conclusion that God is my only hope is quickly reached.
Thus, with the Bible open to the Psalms, I determined to read until God stopped me.
It wasn’t long before Psalm 9:10 leaped into view.
“Those who know Your name” That phrase includes me. I am one of the people who knows God’s name. God has revealed Himself to me and I have accepted Jesus’ sacrifice for my sins. He is my Lord and I know His name.
“will trust in You,” I hear the Holy Spirit whispering to me. Including myself in the first phrase requires me to act according to the second part. Almost before the question, “How can I trust You?” forms in my mind He answers me.
“for You, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You.” Never. Not once. Not now, not ever.
And so I stay where God has stopped me, repeating over and over His command to trust and His promise to save.
God, my own words fail me so I rely on the words recorded by those who sought You before me. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. (Psalm 20:7) The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10) Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You. (Psalm 9:10)

suzanne, thank you for the devotional. I have many experiences to share since the Lord showed me His mercy and grace. the mere fact that I am here today, so in love, in a relationship that is beyond gratitude and humility(there has to be a grander word(s) to express these two things.
praying for me at first was very awkward but just since this Christmas I find myself willing, wanting and don’t hesitate to say prayer wherever I am. of course scripture for me in the wee hours of the morning(when not even the dog is hinting to go out) are the most fulfilling. it’s the one on one with the Lord. I may be turning a half century old in a few months and getting down on bended knee has never felt so good(even with the arthritis). of all the books I have in my collection, His Word, Scripture, well, there is no other book comparable. praying Scripture is true inspiration and comfort for me no matter what trials I have and will face. Amen
That is good news, Sharon! Hymns are a wonderful way to focus on God’s character and grace.
i wasn’t praying scriptures but singing hymns in my head as they removed the cist and it came back with good news no cancer
Yes God is good all the time. I have had a very difficult time in 2008, with a lawsuit against me, husband losing his job, having surgery, getting kicked out of my house and my son being sent to jail on murder charges. In all those trials and tribulations I stood strong on the Lord and he brought me through all those circumstances meracously!
The lawsuit was resolved, my husband now has a better job than the one he had before, my surgery was a success, we now live in a much nicer home and my son was released from jail a month later because they did not have enough evidence to try him.
I can truely testify that God answers prays and works everything out for good!
It is so great to hear how God has constantly been at work in your life, Shirley. Thank you for your great reminder of the promises we have in God’s Word that He hears us and answers our prayers.
May God continue to be your strength and your hope.
Suzanne, thank you for today’s devotional, it
is very encouraging. I am so so thankful for
knowiing God as my Lord and saviour. When
I look back, and remember the times when I
didn’t know him in a personal way, I shudder.
I am reminded that even at those times, the
grace of God was being extended toward me.
God has rescue me many many times in various situations, like sickness, financial pro-
blems, problems with kids, husband, and etc.
When I am going through a trial, I need some-
thing that going to help me bring things into
focus. The word of God is what does this for
me, reading it , praying it, confessing it, medi-
tating it, or hearing it taught. Doing times like
this(trialing times), I need something real,true,
solid, reliable, tested, that I can stand on. I
don’t put trust in my feelings, or what I am see
ing with my eyes. When I find a scripture(s) I
can use to relate to what I am going through,
then I stand on it in faith. God word is pure,
and a shield to them that put their trust in it.
IJohn 5:14 said,”That this is the confidence we
have in God: that if we ask(pray) anything
according to his will(word) he hears us. IJohn
5:15 said, “And if we know that he hears us
whatever we ask(pray) we know that we have
what we asked of him! Well with me that is a
done deal, that settle it. Why use any other
method to pray by but the scriptures? The word(scripture) tells us this is what get results. One more thing, it is good to know God, and even better when he knows you by
way of a personal relationship with him. Have
a rejoicing day in the Lord.
