Challenges come to all of us. Sometimes they can feel overwhelming. When they do our tendency is often to become discouraged in our faith. My friend called today. She is in the middle of some very stretching circumstances. Her voice cracked as she asked, “Why would God let us go all the way down this road only to close the door now?”  She was in a tough and confusing spot. Together we prayed that God would reveal the next step to her. And He will. We both know His track record in our lives. He can be depended upon.

When life is tiring and confusing it’s easy to loose hope in God’s ability to work on our behalf. We can become weary and not bother picking up the Bible to hear what His Spirit has to say to us. We can cease to pray, feeling that God isn’t hearing us anyway.

God knows our nature is to fall away when times are hard and we are confused. He knows we will tend to neglect His Word. He reminds us not to…

“Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”( Hebrews 5:13 & 14).

Righteousness means choosing a “Yes Lord” attitude in all of life. Spiritual discernment grows as we live in the mature state of being able to say …
•    “Yes Lord” I will trust You, even in the dark.
•    “Yes Lord” I will believe Your word, even when I feel confused.
•    “Yes Lord” I will obey what I know You are asking me to do.
•    “Yes Lord” I will continue to commit my every step to You.
•    “Yes Lord” I will continue to grow in spiritual understanding.

Hard circumstances in life can be times of equipping. The roots of a mighty tree must go deep so it will be grounded when the fierce winds blow.

During times of deep challenge make a choice to trust God. Make a decision to allow God to equip you with spiritual understanding and wisdom for your next step.

Stay disciplined. Keep equipped by standing on the promises of His word. Keep the door of your heart open with an invitation to Him to lead you every step of the crooked way.

He will build a track record in your life that will secure you in your faith. He is faithful. Be determined to continue to equip yourself with prayer and His word.

Though circumstances and people may disappoint you, God never will. His strength will hold your hand and your heart through those times when your world is shaken.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Help me, during times of uncertainty, not to fall away from You and Your word. Help me to keep a disciplined spirit and continue to equip myself with Your promises and an open heart for You to be at work, even in the midst of confusion. Thank you for Your Holy Spirit who will help me grow in spiritual understanding. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

I forgot to say that the text came at the same time that I was either answering the study question or while I was praying. I just didn’t hear it come in, and I wasn’t paying attention to exactly what time I wenr from writing to praying.

I am scared to death and am really having trouble trusting, even through the timing of everything is “just like God.” I have an interview tomorrow morning at 9 am. I don’t know if I remember enough about OR nursing (sterile technique, etc.) from nursing school or not (12 years or more ago). Or if I can learn the software in only 2 days myself. AND I am getting a cold or flu which began only a couple of hours after I set up the interview with the agency (sick people don’t belong in an OR).

So, my emotions and doubts are trying to trip me up. I don’t want to go to the interview, and even feel a little depressed about it. As I said, I don’t trust God very much with work matters, and I am afraid to try. But I did remember Prov 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” I don’t remember verse 6, but it fits, too.

This could be the beinning of a new phase in my life, if I can just keep my emotions from ruining it (from interfering with sound thinking). I could barely think the whole rest of the afternoon after setting the appointment. So, pray for me, if you would, ladies. it has helped me before.

    Thanks again,
    Dianne :-}

I have a situation like this. I haven’t worked for about 2 years, other than a few very isolated days. Friday I was answering a question in a small group study workbook: “What area(s) of your life have you not trusted the Lord with? Why?” I wrote “work” because I have been disappointed by Him so far (the past 25 years). Not long after, I said my morning prayers. Then I got up and noticed a text message on my phone (I don’t text, and it came from a temp agency that I hadn’t worked for, nor even spoken with for over 2 years). I looked up the agency through another avenue and called them, and the text was legit. They had a software training position in which I could teach the physicians in a local ER how to navigate the new medical software while they were doing their work. I am a nurse who has been trying to get out of nursing and have taken computer classes in order to do that. I have had no work in either IT or nursing since I took the course. I also applied for a similar position a couple of years ago but didn’t get it because there was a problem between the other agency and the hospital system. This job would also meet the needs of saving money to travel overseas this summer with, and in order to see, family and not having to be locked into a regular job where I can’t tell them I have to be gone for three weeks.

    Heavenly Father,

I join Gail and others, as we lift up to Your Throne, Andi and Andy.

Lord, You know everything about them. You were there when they were born, You knew everything about them before they were…You created them for Your purpose and we find peace in knowing that You will never leave them. Lord, You are the Only One Who can calm their souls….pour down Your peace and grace … and may their faith rise as they trust You in these times. May they see Your Hand as they seek Your way….

Light their paths, Lord…that there may be no confusion. Give them peace in knowing You will never leave or forsake them. Guide Andy as He looks for employment and keep Andi safe and in health as she prays. Open doors of opportunity and provide as they wait…trusting like a child.

    In Jesus Name

Andi….I think of one of my favorite scriptures in Isaiah 43 “Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by they name; and thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when though walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

I can’t possibly know all you face right now….but I know you and Andy and know that you have lived your lives committed to the Lord… You have lived a life of faith. Your testimony honors God and I have been blessed and encouraged by both of you.

Know many are praying for you and for all that concerns your hearts. Be encouraged, my friend and may you see His blessings all around you.

    Father God,
Thank you for Andi’s faith and for her declaration here to grow in faith and trust You in all things. Please bless Andi and her husband today in some special way that will re-affirm Your care for them. Guide their every step as You lead them through the maze of life during this season. Encase them in Your presence and thank you for Andi’s testimony of faith. In the powerful name of Jesus I pray, amen.

Thanks so much Gail for your very clear and good response. From this time on, I will try to pray for all who requested prayers from me regardless of their relationship with CHRIST and others.
You verified here that my call to pray is the essence of my faithfulness to obey HIM regardless of what I see, feel and hear.
    Thanks again.

    Hi Romel,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here. What an encouraging story you have of obeying your father and seeing how God used it in your life to fulfill the desires of your heart.

You are wondering about praying for the requests of others who ask for prayer yet do not change their own ways or follow God’s word.

I believe if someone desires prayer that it is a wonderful opportunity to pray for them and with them. It is always good to ask for truth to be revealed to them in their circumstances and for God’s will to be done in their lives.

Often God will use the answers to those prayers to get the attention of the one wandering from Him and use it to draw them to Himself.

God invites us to come to His throne of grace to find mercy and help in our time of need. To be able to do that for others, regardless of their own heart condition, is a special thing and the results will be in God’s hand.

God bless you, Romel, as you share and pray. You have a warm heart toward our Father, God and He will use your prayers.

    Warmly,
    Gail

Thanks Gail for the great devotional. GOD has provided us everything we need for life and godliness according to HIS divine power and HE made all things in heaven available to us but our choice in life must fall inline where HE is leading us at the beginning otherwise we end in the winding road to reach HIS blessings and probably not the best ones. GOD gave me my parents to listen to and my father knows what would spare his children during tough times in the future so he suggested to his 7 children what profession or vocation for each one of us and he will fully financed our education. He knows the vocation and professions that will give us good life. He desired for me to be a nurse. I would like to be in the ministry. He told me that will happen as I obeyed him. I argued with him but obeyed him anyway. When I finished I became a missionary nurse for 8 provinces in Philippines and I was able to work in all the areas of nursing afterwards that I learned to love. My daughter did the same but my son tried few courses before he listened to my advise and both are in good profession now. Both live a blessed life so with my brothers and sisters. A brother from my family did not listen and died young and my his son who did like him, a drop-out is also living a difficult but blessed life.

We have information overload but putting them into practice is the problem. I put information online the Power of prayer and still few would asked me to pray for them but refused to change and follow GOD’s word. I wonder if I I prayed for and GOD answered it because HE is true to HIS word that it would bless people who asked for prayers but would not go to GOD because they are afraid they will be turn down. Sometimes it gives me reluctance to pray for someone asking for prayers.

    Any thoughts on this. ???

Today’s devotion was my first and I am so pleased with its spiritual depth and practical encouragement. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace AS YOU TRUST IN HIM, so that you may overflow with hope by the POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.” Rom 15:13

    Blessings!
