Do you believe God treasures your heart? We read in John 3:16, “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” A treasure is something of great value. God thought our hearts were of such great value that He sent his Son into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we could have a personal relationship with him and spend eternity with him.
We are living in the midst of a brutal battle and vicious war against a subtle and supposedly friendly enemy who knows his time is short to steal our hearts. We read in Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Therefore, it is necessary to guard and protect our hearts.

How do we guard our hearts?” When we nourish our hearts with God’s Word, we will recognize the deception of the world and be able to protect, defend, and shield our hearts from the enemy by developing an intimate relationship with God. Paul tells us in Colossians 3:1. “Set your hearts on things above, not on earthly things.” The Enemy wants to rob our hearts, so he tries to get us over-whelmed, defeated, and tired. He wants us to be overly busy so that when God wants to get our attention and communicate with us His call goes to “voice mail.” We must choose to make our relationship with God a high priority and be alert to the enemy’s schemes.
A weak or empty heart is vulnerable to temptations from the enemy. Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray so you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” When we are tired, sad, and discouraged or when our hearts are cluttered or divided we can become weak and careless with our hearts. Therefore, we are to be alert and pray that we will recognize the temptations that come our way so we will not yield to them.
Yet God treasures our hearts so much that He has made a provision for us if we do yield to temptation. If we forgive our sin, He will forgive our sin, and cleanse our hearts because we are His treasure.
Lord, I want to thank You that You love me and treasure my heart. Forgive me for being careless with Your treasure. Help me to nourish my heart with Your Word and become strong and alert. Help me to choose to spend time in Your word and in prayer so that my heart is strengthened to resist the enemy of my soul. Amen.
Questions: Are you protecting your heart? Is your heart weak, cluttered, or divided? What does God want you to do to have a strong heart so you can resist the enemy?

lillian, thank you for the devotional. the key words for me here are, ”if we forgive our sin, He will forgive our sin.” simple you would think. i realize it’s different for everyone. i thought that i had forgiven myself(for the longest time) but that was the problem–”I thought”. the first time I let God see my heart, that’s when i experienced listening. I guard my heart daily with scripture. I remind myself daily that God’s plan for me hasn’t even yet begun. I’v a long journey ahead and I anticipate trials. the Bible gives me all that I need but the want is to not just read it, I want to live it. I want to respond.
thank you
