Changed by the Spirit

Our series of diverse online interactive Bible studies can help you reconnect with God’s word.

There are places and times when we feel we need extra wisdom, insight, guidance and strength. We long for understanding in situations that seem confusing. We need revelation when truth is being hidden or skewed.

God provides all these things to His children through the Holy Spirit.  Paul the apostle, prayed for believers to receive the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so they could know God better.

This prayer is still for us today. It reflects what is available to believers … to you and me.

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you
• may know the hope to which he has called you,
• the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and
• his incomparably great power for us who believe.
That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms…”

(Ephesians 1:17-20)

Why do we allow ourselves to live in confusion and even chaos when we can be equipped by the Holy Spirit of God? Do we miss the wisdom and revelation we can have from God because we drown out that quiet voice of the Spirit by our busy lives?  In so doing we are actually choosing the chaos and confusion. Think about it. This is not God’s plan for you. Know He wants to equip you to walk in wisdom, revelation, strength and power right where you are. He wants you to know Him better.

Think of one area where you are experiencing perplexity, confusion or chaos and invite God right now to begin  to show You His wisdom in this situation.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that Your Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. Thank you that Your Spirit will lead me to know You better.  Fill my spirit afresh today with the wisdom and revelation, the strength and comfort I need to walk in the areas that perplex me. Quiet my heart to hear Your Spirit specifically in  (name your own perplexing circumstance) . Thank you that You equip me by Your Spirit. I pray these things in the name of Jesus, amen.

Questions: How do we sometimes “miss the wisdom and revelation we can have from God”? How can freshly we seek God’s wisdom and revelation?

Gail, thank you for the devotional. for myself, missing His Wisdom and revelation simply means that i’m not ready for what it is I have prayed about. not all the time, but sometimes. there is maturity in my spiritual growth that just hasn’t grown yet. i am learning that just because doesn’t always mean the prayer will be answered ASAP. i have to give thanks when things are going very well for myself and when they aren’t going so well. and i find that if i put aside my Bible for too long, it’s like a limb that is missing. i need to study daily because it’s the only way i will be able to know more of God and this wonderful relationship. reading Scripture is like a refreshing splash of cold water. it brings me back to focus on why I am still here. Amen

Thanks Gail for the reminder that we are given the power of the Holy Spirit to help us with difficulties. My husband, like Andi’s husband, is also out of a job. We also have to make difficult decisions, like should we sell the house if he doesn’t find a job soon. It is a powerful reminder that we don’t have to make these decisions on our own. IT is hard to pray and be patient and wait for answers. It is also hard for me to be Still before God and listen to what he has to say.

Gail thanks for this devotional today. It confirmed that I am right on tartget with all that I am doing. Spent two hours this morning praying for wisdom and understanding in knowing God’s will regarding a few things that I am desiring to move forward with.

I think that we all get toooo busy with so many things but none of real importance in His eyes. We all need to become focused on the things that are important and let go of all the other stuff that hinders us.

When I first became a Christian many years ago my spiritual sister had me study Ephesians w/her, calling it God’s Love Letter to HIS kids. This prayer is extremely precious to me and I’ve written it in every Bible we’ve ever given to anyone.
As a couple we are dealing w/the chaos of no job and trying to sell our home in this economic time. We are asking HIM to help, lead and guide us thru these 2 things and thru these upsetting days.
