Songs of Deliverance

“Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:6-7 NIV).

Read Psalm 32: 1-11

From their living room window, Roger and Gail watched the churning water rush down the Skagit River in western Washington. Due to record rainfall, the rising river, filled with limbs and debris, threatened to overflow its banks. Would their home flood?

Together Roger and Gail cried out, “Lord, please protect us and our home! Keep the river within its banks.”

The river raged nearby, but God gave them peace. Although the river did overflow its banks, God’s mighty hand held back the floodwaters, and the muddy water did not come inside their home. That day Roger and Gail experienced Psalm 32:6 in a personal way: “Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.”

David penned these reassuring words in a psalm that focuses on instruction and repentance. He acknowledged his sin and accepted God’s forgiveness. David encourages us to follow his example and pray to God, assuring us that God’s love surrounds those who trust Him.

When swirling situations threaten to engulf our lives, we too can cry out to God. Although we don’t know how He’ll answer, He promises to surround us with “songs of deliverance” (verse 7).

Almighty God, You are my hiding place. Thank You for Your strong hand of protection. Remind me to call on You in every storm of life.

Questions: How do you face troubled times in your life? Do you trust God to be with you when troubles surround you and threaten to engulf you?

Lydia, thank you for the devotional. I face the troubled times by looking to the Lord. I trust the Lord our God that He has helped me through today. tomorrow? I prefer to look to one day at a time. God is with me always in strength and guidance.

Thank you all for your kind comments. The Lord is filling the “hole” Ms Blus, with clouds of fluffy memories. God bless you all, Gail

So sorry to hear about your beloved “kitten”

  • Andi says:

Congratulations to you Gail! A girl! What fun and joy she’ll bring to your family! [we have 4 little girls]
Ah Cathy, today’s devotion hit me also. I KNOW that I should run to HIM first; but so often my humanity and flesh are the first response to troubles. And yet, HE calls me to remember all of His promises and all the answered prayers and times HE’s met us in our times of need…….and yes there are faithful sisters and brothers who hold us up before HIS Throne of Grace when we are tired and feeling overwhelmed. Tonight I lift you up, as I was lifted up a short time ago.
Praising God for this word today and reminder to ‘focus our eyes upon HIM, the Author and Finisher of our faith.’
Blessings to you all dear sisters!

Thank you Lydia, I needed the reminder of God’s power today. We lost our best friend, not a human, but a little kitty who loved us as only God can–without reservation. Bathed in tears and prayer, Rog and I took Ms. Blu, our beloved friend for 16 years to be put down. She was diagnosed with kidney failure last week, and we worked with the vet to save her, but that didn’t fit God’s plan. Today we said goodbye. So very difficult, but so grateful to experience the peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit, and friends like Lydia. Thank you dear friend, Gail

  • Cathy says:

Thank you Gail and fellow sisters for keeping me in your prayers. I was very calm and matter of fact for the first 3 months, trusting in the Lord, but all of a sudden things seem to be spinning out of control and it is so comforting to me to know others are standing in the gap for me at this time. Thank you. I do remember the devotions about the name of God and will have to reread those. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you for your congratulations Cathy! It is an exciting stage!

During times of anxiousness I have found it so helpful to go over the names of God and focus on all He is in the face of whatever circumstances are front and center. We featured them along with prayers here on the site awhile back. You can find the list of all of them here on the TM site http://truthmedia.com/training/attributes_god/

I am also featuring them on my own website this month too if you want to review the prayers all in one place. Just click on my name next to this post and it will take you there.

    Father God,
Cathy feels the flood waters coming up right now and I ask, in Your powerful name, to hold them back. Grant her peace and calm and give her the mind of Christ so she knows just what action to take and what not to do. Grant her divine wisdom and insight and be to her the God of all Hope who will steady her and shelter her in this time and lead her and her family to higher ground. May she hear the music of the kingdom in her heart today as You sing songs of deliverance over her. In the strong name of Jesus I ask this, amen.

    Warmly,
    Gail

  • Cathy says:

Gail ‘ I meant “HOPE”, although your grandchild can be of “help” someday, too.

  • Cathy says:

Congratulations Gail on being a new Grandma. How wonderful to welcome a new precious life. A great sign of help.

Even though I know I am surrounded by God by God’s love and protection, I still feel very anxious and afraid. Please pray for additional comfort and faith for me. It does feel like the flood waters are coming to overwhelm me and my family right now, even though I know and believe in my mind that God is there to lift us up. Please keep praying for peace and acceptance, or wisdom to continue to move in the right direction for our family.

  • Pat says:

Such a great reminder this is to me today, God is always there to turn to when troubles come and the first that we should turn to. It is so comforting to me to know that he is there to help me thru my times of trials and troubles. As I look out my window today after huge storms passed thru during the night, it is a beautiful day, and God has kept me safe til the storms passes by.

  • Gail Rodgers says:

Thank you for this beautiful reminder today, Lydia. I love the word picture of being surrounded by songs of deliverance. It’s a picture of peace in the midst of the swirling.

On Sunday we welcomed our first little grandchild into the world and it gives me great peace to know this precious child will be taught of God’s great songs of deliverance as he grows.

Father God, We praise You for Your steadfast love and for the wonderful gift of this new little life! Help us to model Your amazing peace to those we have opportunity to influence.

Thank you that You do surround us with Your songs of deliverance. May we tune in to hear that music today.

    We praise Your name!
