Hold On

Lately there has been so much chaos and crisis in our lives, that instead of moving forward, we are simply trying to hold on to God.

The Bible urges us to do just that:

“But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast” (Hebrews 3:6).

“”We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first” (Hebrews 3:14).

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess” (Hebrews 4:14).

We are instructed to hold on to our courage, to hold on to the hope we have in Christ, to hold firmly to the confidence we had when we first came to Christ and to the faith we profess.

These are good reminders, but what if I feel like I can’t hold on any longer?

Then, it is time to recall that it was God who first took hold of me. “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (Philippians 3:12b).

My survival does not depend on me; as I cling to God I remember that before I chose Him, He chose me, before I loved God, He loved me, before I held on to Him, He held me.

When darkness and evil surround us, we must consciously call to mind that God gave Jesus Christ all power and authority; in Him and through Him we find salvation, courage, hope and faith.

“[Christ] is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17).

Holy God, thank you that You are the One who holds me, help me to hold on to You.

Questions: Why is Christ the only one worth holding on to? How have Scripture or prayer or fellow believers helped you to hold on to Jesus?

Suzanne, thank you for the devotional.
Chazlie, you’ve succeeded in holding on and it’s your heart that’s changed. continue to ask and you will receive. God bless you on this wonderful journey of life.
I am one of many, a living testimony of why Christ is the Only One worth holding onto. The Lord knows where I’ve walked. My trial was over 2o years long before I finally found salvation through and because Jesus died for my sins, our sins. Jesus inspired the hope and courage that I walk today. in a world so full of people, it’s so easy to feel all alone, but in faith we are never alone.

    Dear Chazlie,

Please know that there are those of us that understand what you are going through. Several years ago, I was going through very difficult times….things of the past were haunting me. I found myself cutting also…and I didn’t know why. I had never heard anything about it or that others did that. I think I felt so numb ..with the emotional pain I was having to face, that by cutting, at least I could “feel” something….even if it was pain.

I feel sure that on this site are mentors, who have experienced the same difficulties and can share with you and pray with you….

    Dear Jesus..

Lord, I bow before You right now, lifting Chazlie to Your very throne. You know everything about her, Lord….You knew her before she was born…You know the pain and difficulties in her life ..there is nothing hidden from You. Thank you that You love us so much….that You took on the sins of the world……that we might have eternal life.

Lord…..minister to Chazlie right now….send those into her life who will love her, minister and pray with her. Let her feel Your arms around her….minister your mercy and grace as she grows in You.

    In Jesus Name…

    Amen

    Dear Chazlie,

Thank you for sharing your deep struggle with us. Please allow me to pray for you.

Holy God, thank you for holding on to Chazlie. Thank you for giving her the strength to resist temptation this morning. We praise You for Your power and Your love. We know that temptation will come again, so we pray that You would hold Chazlie in the palm of Your hand and help her to know that she is never alone. Give her the strength she needs moment by moment, day by day. Thank you for all the things that You have freed her from – drugs and relationships that prevented her from seeking You. I pray in the powerful name of Jesus, that You would set her free from this last thing that enslaves her. Thank You for Your word which says: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36) Amen.

I have been really struggling with something. It has been really hard for me to let go of. I have been off of drug since July 2008. I have gotten rid of all of my friends that were holding me back from becoming a christian. There is still this one thing that I am having so much trouble with. I have never been this open but I am just going to come out and say it. I cut myself and I am having a hard time stopping. I love God with all of my heart. He has changed my life. This morning I was going to cut but first I decided to read this devotion and it really changed my thinking. I just want to thank you and thank God for using you to help me. That is really all I have to say.
    God Bless to all…..
