I don’t know about you, but at times I yearn to spend a day alone. Sometimes we can crave sleep or the need to get a list of things accomplished. This particular day I craved time with the Lord. Time to ponder, reflect, pray; asking, “Lord, would You please speak to me?” I needed to be renewed. So I arranged to spend the day at a nearby Retreat Centre.
Throughout the day I prayed, read and journaled my thoughts. The last few minutes alone were the most profound for me. I read Hebrews 13:20,21 and sensed the LORD Himself was giving me a benediction – a promise of what He would do for me in the days to come. I believe it is for you as well.
“Now may the God of peace – who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with His blood – may He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen” (Hebrews 13:20,21 NLT).
Do you hear Him speaking to you? He whispers peace. He is our great Shepherd who will lead us. His covenant in His blood is eternal – He will not change His mind. He is the one who will equip us with everything we need for doing His will and it is His power at work within us to produce every good thing that is pleasing to Him.
When we love Jesus, our hearts want to please Him. When I was a little girl my mother said I used to want to have my hair brushed so I would be “pretty for daddy.” That is our heartbeat – we want to please Him.
I have been praying these verses and thanking the Lord that He will provide “all I need” to do His will. He will work within me to produce “every good thing” that is pleasing to Him.
Hear His whispers of peace to you. Let Him renew you. Rest. Trust. Take His peace. Thank Him that He promises to provide everything you need and then step out and do the next thing He asks. You can trust Him to keep His promise!
Lord, thank you for your peace. Thank you that you are my Shepherd. Thank you for your promise to equip me with everything (add specifics) I need for doing your will and thank you that it is your power at work within me to produce every good things that is pleasing to you. Lord, please help me rest and trust. Renew me as I trust you to lead as I step out…In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Questions: When you ask the Lord to speak to you, what do you want Him to say? What will it take for you to rest in His promises and trust His word is for you?

Donna, thank you for this devotional. I find this a very difficult question to answer. what would anyone want the Lord to say to them? He says it all in one word- LOVE.
Spiritual maturity will bring the reward of rest and trust in His Word.
just to know that He is there
