“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
Today, more people are experiencing hardship and loss than ever before in their lifetime. Everywhere I look and everything I hear speaks of desperation. It is a cry that is coming from tremendous loss. Some are experiencing great financial loss; others are losing their jobs, families, friendships and health.
God has been reminding me recently of His Sovereignty and the promise in His Word, which so clearly and tenderly speaks to us that He is present with us in our very personal situations. What a promise! If you feel alone in your circumstances know that you’re not. God is with you, and with such gentleness, yet firm assurance, He beckons you to a greater life where there is no fear and there is no anxiousness, but only rest in Him.
Isaiah 43:2 says: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. Even when you walk through fire, and when the waters overwhelm you, I am there.”
Know that God is walking with you during not only the sweet times in you life, but especially during the difficult times. David, when running from King Saul for his life, cried out to God and declared that He was setting His face like a flint before Him. He knew that He must keep his eyes, not on his circumstance, but like a rock, immovable upon God and God alone to get through his many years of trials.
Even Joseph, when sold into slavery and then imprisoned for no wrong doing, remained faithful to God and eventually named his second child Ephraim meaning, “God prospered me in the land of my affliction.”
God often uses the times in our lives where everything seems to be going wrong around us, to get us to the very place that He intends for us.
Remember Romans 8:31, which says; “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
I once heard a quote that goes like this: “If you look inward, you get depressed. If you look outward you get stressed. If you look upward, you get refreshed”.
Let’s look upward together! Let’s set our face like rocks before God. He is faithful and just to perform His promises and His Word over our lives.
Heavenly Father, I love You and thank you for reminding me of Your Sovereign hand over my life and that You are with me in everything that I am going through. Thank You that I can cling to You, knowing that You are in control and that You are with me every step of the way in my circumstances. I cling to Your promises and open my heart to fully trusting in You as I continue to feed on your faithfulness. Amen.
Questions: How do you handle the stresses in your life? How can one start to take one’s eyes off their difficult circumstances and turn them to the Lord? What are some steps that you need to take to start to trust God fully for your circumstances?

The steps that I am going to take today is to give my problems to God. I have been trying to take control of my life and leaving God out. I will look up and pray for God’s guidance.
Thank you so much for your timely words. I was beginning to stress over having possibly taken on more than I can handle with our upcoming Walks. I keep forgetting that I “volunteered” to do both and when I heard I needed to be in two different meetings on the same day at the same time….well, the “tired and stressed” stepped in. Thank you, God, for this devotional and using it as a gentle reminder that we do indeed need to “Let go, and let God”. You are our rock and our salvation and I praise Your holy name. Amen.
I know all the things in todays devotional and I believe them all – yet still I don’t find it easy to regularly read God’s Word and pray to Him as often as I should. Am I alone in this? I love my Lord Jesus with all my heart and I know that He is waiting to talk with me…..
No, Linda, you are not alone in this. Sometimes my prayers are “on the run”. My reading the Word may consist only of putting together the Children’s Church bulletin. But I read a thing long ago that said that talking God to is just that easy – talk to God. I talk to Him when I drive, when my hip goes out, when I do dishes or laundry – throughout the day I find myself not in prayer but in conversation with God. You can do this too. It is very rewarding. Remember too to say “Thank You”, just like you would a friend.
I agree with Linda. I find it hard to pray more. I also find it hard to pray for myself. I know God is there and I need to reach out more…
Carol you are so right. I will remember to pray to pray where ever I am. One thing I like is when I am knitting, I will pray with each stitch. I did this when I was knitting a shawl for my daughter.
Thank you so much Carole. And also Jane for your comments – it is good to know that it isn’t just me!!!! I will keep you words on my mind and keep in a ‘conversation’ with Jesus in my daily life. I suppose I do this already to some extent, as I silently think about Him and talk to Him. Thank you again.
God’s word tells us that if we hide His Word in our hearts it will help to keep us from sinning against Him. I have always struggled with being disciplined in commiting His Word to memory. And, to take it a step further and not only work on memorizing it, but to choose to recall His truth in moments of stress, or loss. I feel convicted that I need to make this great change in my life. 1 Peter 4 and 5 are great chapters regarding pressing on in times of struggle. I’m starting my verse memory here, hoping it will help me walk through my loss.
1 Peter 4:19 “Therefore let those also who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.”
1 Peter 5:10 “And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.”
The first is a command to commit ourselves to Christ and doing what is right. The second is a promise of what He will do in us, and that the difficult times won’t last forever. As I was praying and thanking God for these verses in my car the other day I noticed a beautiful rainbow, and the only billowy clouds in the sky that were shaped like a castle. It was beautiful, and I believe He was confirming His promise to me. He’s not finished with any of us.
I find it hard to think of Jesus while at work. I get frustrated easily. I am at a place where there is no growth and I feel like the company is letting me down. I look up to God to direct me in the right direction, today in a meeting I was trying to keep my mouth shut on what I really thought about how the Administration was handling things, and then one of the presentors pointed directly to me and acknowledged all my work and I then realized at least someone sees me, and recognizes me. God’s words came through her mouth and lifted my heart. A great example of how God lifts us from up when ever we need it the most. Thank you God for coming forth in my meeting today to show me to not be discouraged that you are following me through a difficult situation at work and you will walk by me and guide me through the good and bad. Amen!
Lord, I lift JJ to you and ask that you would continue to bring your word and your promises to mind as she faces a difficult work situation. Father, we praise you that she has a job, that she was disciplined and bold enough not to say anything damaging during the meeting. Thank you that you always recognize the work she does and for allowing her employer to see it as well. I pray her exsample will be a light to those she works with, and that all she encounters today will see your love shining through her. I ask that you would continue to uplift and encourage her today. Shower her with your amazing love and grant her peace in her work situation. Amen.
Thank you mamaof5 your prayer is going on my desk so that I can pray this every day. It covers everything. :) Have a great weekend everyone!
Brigette, thank you for the devotional but especially the prayer that you wrote. I read this devotional the day it was posted and I was too not focused to absorb the warmth of it. I just read it again now and I so felt God’s love.
just a few days ago i told my daughter and husband that i am tired of worring about things that i really can’t do anything about and i am putting it all in Gods hands because He can do all things and that is just what i have been doing
Prayer is the best everytime I put all my challenges to HIS care I get relieved knowing that HE is there for me all the way.
