Massive blood loss dropped my blood pressure sending me into shock after our son’s birth. To save my life medical staff quickly lowered my head, elevated my feet and squeezed blood by hand into all four arms and legs. I lived because of quick action and life saving blood.
Regaining consciousness, I was fiercely thirsty. Blood is mostly water. The blood I lost was replaced but my cells were parched and dry; they screamed, “Water!”
Our bodies are seventy five percent water. Water is the chief component of blood, saliva, sweat, urine and even tissue.
Seventy five percent of our planet is also water. We use it for energy, playing, bathing, drinking. We’d die without it.
Jesus is called “spring of living water” in Jeremiah 17:13: “O LORD … those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living water.” Just as natural man dies without water, spirit man dies without “living water.” If we drink the water of Jesus by repenting of sin and trusting Him, He promises to satisfy our thirsting hearts. Truth satisfies.
“… whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”(John 4:14). “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:38 ).
Thirsty? Need a drink?
Jesus spoke about eternal life with a Samaritan woman at a well. She intended to fill her pot and quench her thirst. Surprise! She found “living water” for her whole town. (John 4:5-42) Many Samaritans believed in Jesus when ‘truth water’ flowed from her. She poured Jesus, “stream of living water” on them and they were cleansed of sin and received eternal life. “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols” (Ezekiel 36:35).
The Lord promises to save those who draw water from His wells of salvation, satisfying us in drought and dry places. His water produces life in our deserts.
Lucy J Rider’s old song thrills me:
Ho! Every one that is thirsty in spirit,
Ho! Every one that is weary and sad,
Come to the fountain, there’s fullness in Jesus,
All that you’re longing for, come and be glad.
I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
I will pour floods upon the dry ground;
Open your heart for the gift I am bringing,
While ye are seeking Me, I will be found.
Are you thirsty for Truth? Meet Jesus at His well as the Samaritan and I did. He’ll pour his water and life saving blood into your dry life. You’ll become a spring of water, loving, praying, telling others of the only Spring that provides eternal life.
Jesus, I believe you are the Water welling up to eternal life. I am thirsty. Come, bring me life. Amen.
Questions: Are you thirsty for the living water? Where are you seeking fulfillment from? What steps do you need to take in order to quench your thirst?

Thank you so much Petey, for this timely and insightful message.God has taken me away to solitude with Him. I am struggling with sudden onset of deafness and do not yet know if it is temporary or permanent.I have come to acceptance, for myself, knowing I will always hear HIS voice. But, I am missing inspirational music and have the greatest concern for my husband of 1 1/2 years. I cannot imagine it will be pleasant for him, if I do not regain my hearing. He is a growing Christian and we both surrender to God and know He will teach us and strengthen us in every circumstance. Your rich message refocuses me to what is really essential. May He bless you abundantly as you continue to serve Him with a glad heart. How kinc of you to take time to respond ! With Gratitude, Ruthann
Like this quote from Rick Joyner: ‘The greatest warriors are the greatest worshipers.’ And Philip Yancey has a great book called: Prayer: Does it Make Any Difference? Sure does! He says that perhaps prayer’s real purpose/best purpose is to let our true selves be loved by God. I like that! Blessings as we pull down from His cupboards for our needy world. Petey
Petey, thank you. I will check out Joy Dawson. I too, start my day with prayer first, then devotionals with study. and I know what you mean when you say about the ‘someday’s you hate to get up and get busy as they day calls. I’m like that. But I know that I don’t have to get too far into my day and not know that He is right there with me, in everything I do, see.
Kanj, thank you. Yes, can’t listen and talk too. : ) It is a real discipline to learn to hear God speak. But He says: My sheep hear my voice and follow me. Joy Dawson has a great book called “Intercession: Thrilling and Fulfilling” that would give much insight on listening. I start my day with the Word and prayer. No newspaper or TV til that is first done. Find it stretches longer and richer each day, somedays I hate to get up and get busy His presence is so rich. Blessings on Your journey. Maybe we will cross paths one day. love, Petey
Petey, thank you for a very inspirational devotion. as I grow spiritually, my thirst is never satisfied. the steps I feel I need are to be still first, thus making the listening that more rewarding.
Petey,
Well said. What a wonderful article / reminder that “the life is in the blood” and that the water of the Holy Spirit is the life infused into us / our blood.
Hi Sharon B, Isn’t He awesome, the quencher of every thirst known to man, Water Giver, Water Bearer for us. Let’s fill our buckets and dump on everyone we meet (the way the players surprise coaches at the end of the game with water poured over their heads!) How refreshing would that be!! Or we can keep our hoses pouring out on the streets like a broken fire hydrant so the children will come and play and dance in the life giving water. Blessings on you this day as you soak others in Him. petey prater
