3 Minute Expert: Paranormal
Television shows dealing with the paranormal are popping up all over. There are probably a dozen or more reality shows on this topic, including Paranormal State, Most Haunted, Ghostly Encounters, and Ghost Hunters just to name a few. There are also popular shows like Medium, Ghost Whisperer and The X files, and many films on the subject. Do a search on Youtube and you’ll find thousands of videos on the paranormal. Where does this interest in the paranormal come from? Is the flood of shows on this topic partly because special effects are easier and cheaper to produce than ever, or is it something more?
Perhaps there is something innate within humans that gravitates toward the unknown; a quest to find an explanation for things that don’t seem to make sense. What do you think fuels the fascination for the paranormal? Do you believe in phenomena beyond logical explanation?

I believe in phenomena beyond logical explanation…but I don’t believe in the illogical explanations that people have concocted for them. The moment you tack a name on something, it not only ceases to be ineffable, but the name you’ve got for it is probably wrong.
