Archie is Getting Married?
The official Archie Comics blog‘s excited headline: “ARCHIE ANDREWS IS GETTING MARRIED!”
The eternal love triangle is the cornerstone of Archie Comics for over 65 years–and the bane of Archie Andrews’ existence! In fact, over the years it has not only defined the Betty/Archie/Veronica relationship, but has even threatened to dismantle it a time or 20. In fact, we’ll even go so far as to call it the ARCHIE STORY OF THE CENTURY.
I guess after 65 years it’s about time that Archie makes a decision. The big question of course is who will Archie ask to marry him? Veronica Lodge or Betty Cooper? One blogger comments:

Although the proposal comic has not yet been released (issue #600 will be out September 8, 2009) supposedly the answer has already been leaked: He’ll choose Veronica.
Judging from the responses on the official Archie Blog (over 100 so far) this won’t be a popular decision, but it sure makes sense from a business standpoint to create controversy, and thus publicity!
Did you or do you read Archie comics, and what do you think about this latest episode of the Archie comics saga? Does Archie’s (presumed) choice have anything to say about our modern western culture, where plain but nice Betty Cooper is forsaken for rich but cruel Veronica?

As a product of the late 40′and a tour of w.germany,(where there was no tv)we had lots of time to read and trade comics. The antics of these teenagers was of great interest and i suppose in our competitve society veronica is the best match but …..
Was it a slow news day? I find it funny that this story made headlines. It’s curious how like the blogger comment you quoted, I haven’t bought a new issue of Archie comics in over 10 years, yet I still care about this news. I didn’t even realize the kids in Riverdale were finally allowed to grow up! I think in a time where our society is in the midst of/recovering from financial instability, a bit of nostalgia is comforting, bringing me back to a carefree world where all there is to worry about is who Archie will pick for a date. I just might have to pick up this issue.
