I think we can mistakenly associate man's recognition as the measure of our work for the Lord and for His glory. What we do when no one is watching is far more reflective of our motives in serving Him. The Lord tells us in Matthew 6 to be careful about doing 'acts of righteousness' for others to see, for our reward will be earthly (man's recognition.) We are called to be 'living sacrifices,' living our lives as "spiritual acts of worship." (Romans 12:1) Therefore, whatever we do, we do it as unto Him!

Thanks so much for this wonderful message! I am a social worker, and I recently took a job that is more administrative than direct service. When working in the field, I often got a sense that I was on the "front lines" and very actively doing the Lord's work. Although now, as I swim through a sea of paperwork every day, I tend to wonder; Am I serving others in a way that pleases God? These devotionals are truly a blessing and help to give me a sense of purpose amidst the trivial tasks that fill my day.

This is an incredible concept! I am a graduate student and I am currently working on my thesis... not working any other job, or even attending other classes for the summer. I have wondered in having this as the thing that takes up the majority of my time, how I can glorify God in my daily routine. God can be glorified as I sit on my couch researching on my computer, and he can be glorified in how I care for my dogs. Thank you for this today!
