According to a recent study cited in a Wall Street Journal article, church attendance among young adults is at its lowest level in decades. This study also reveals that secularism, or those claiming no religion, has almost doubled since 1990. However, David Bruce of HollywoodJesus.com cites a study that shows there is a rise in spirituality. So, there seems to be an interesting contradiction.
What do you think is the reason for the decline in church attendance? Waning interest in God? A growing aversion to church itself? Or something else?
The reason is simply this: The church does NOT know it’s mission. The mission of the church is NOT church growth. But, most people think that “a personal relationship with Jesus and service projects/good deeds in the community” is the focal point of Christianity. Neither is the focal point of Christianity to “meet the spiritual needs” of people. The Lord Himself will meet those needs, if the church would only do what it is supposed to do, and if we want to follow Christ, we must be concerned with His MESSAGE!!! His message was simple: “The kingdom of God is at Hand. Go forth and preach the gospel of the kingdom!” The kingdom is not something that is exclusively way off in the future, as dispensationalists would have you believe, and at the same time, it is not the church as the reform theologians would tell you (i.e. parable of the wheat and tares). So, what is the kingdom? It is simply this: the NATION. Historically, the church LED the nation. But in our day and time, the church is being led by a corrupted nation. Modern Christian theology has erroneously taught us that the authority of society rests exclusively in whatever government happens to be in power. Paul the apostle in Romans 13 says that we are to be in subject to the government. Then he ALSO states what those governmental powers are supposed to do!!! They are to cast down wicked people. We have a major problem today in America. Wicked men are running and have been running our country for many years now. But the preachers don’t want to talk about this because they are afraid of losing their 501C3 status. Just take a look at the current state of the economy. I wonder how many Christians actually understand where our current economic order came from and how it came about… and how the 1694 Bank of England charter branched out and eventually came to America in the form of the Federal Reserve System, and that this globalized economic system under which we live has grown into this phenomenon described in Revelation 17-18 as Mystery Babylon. Most people reading this will not understand what I’m saying. But even Paul said that toward the end, people would not be able to understand what was taking place because their teachers would be void of understanding… and yet here’s all these people losing jobs, losing income, losing houses, and our preachers have ABSOLUTELY NO MESSAGE for these folks. They can’t address the problems in the Kingdom, or the nation. Why do I say that? The entire theme of the Bible lends itself to the kingdom/nation concept. God has been trying to establish a kingdom in the earth since day 1. It’s His purpose. The kingdom is to be a heavenly one – which, by the way, does NOT mean we die and go to heaven. It means that the kingdom God wants is heaven-ordained. All the people of faith listed in Hebrews 11 were described as seeking this kind of country. Hebrews 11:14 says, “For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.” It doesn’t say that they were focused on building a new church, it doesn’t say that they were looking for a prettier temple, they weren’t concerned with ‘being relevant’ to their local community… they were looking for a COUNTRY!!!! A KINGDOM!!!!
The people leaving church, whether consciously or unconsciously, know that the church today has no answers for the current state of affairs of this nation. They have been brainwashed into believing that globalism is the answer. They have been brainwashed into believing in the abdication of Christian authority in the state, and they believe any politician that comes along and tells them he’s a Christian – without checking him out first.
Additionally, Christians today have a major enemy in their camp. They are called the anti-Christ Media-nites. These lying forked-tongue wicked sons of the devil have been lying to the American public for so long that there is no generation that were around before the national media was established. I might add, the people that control the media, are also the people that control the economic order of our day. When you have control of both of those things, you then have control of the government. Meanwhile, we sweet little Jesus lovers are only worried about what’s going to happen when we die. The fact is, modern Christianity doesn’t believe it has the RIGHT OR the AUTHORITY to do what it is that must be done to restore the principles and divine laws of the Kingdom to our nation. That is why all these self-righteous theologians are telling us that the future of Christianity is in the global south. I want to say it here – those theologians who say these things are only saying it because of self-righteousness. They are involved in a false church, they are preaching a false gospel, about a false Christ, and offering a false salvation. And it’s causing a lot of problems. They either need to get on board with returning our nation to a Christian ethic, or they need to just lock their doors and say “I don’t want to play – that’s too hard of a task!”
The people leaving church aren’t blind to everything I’ve said above. The people in church are absolutely blind to it. Oh how strange it is. I believe that the loss of church attendance is the judgment of God upon churches who won’t address the issues of our nation. I highly recommend anyone who has read this far to read the first chapter of the book of Isaiah. God clearly demonstrates that He doesn’t even want to hear our prayers and worship if we aren’t willing to go out and address the issues of our nation. The fact is, churchianity is not Christianity. Church folks had better wake up and realize that a true relationship with Christ means that we are concerned with WHY he came, and WHAT he taught. He preached the kingdom gospel. If we try to have a “spiritual-personal” relationship with Christ outside of being concerned with what His message really was, all we have at the end of the day is a cheap weekend affair with Him. But our Lord doesn’t like prostitutes. I keep hearing church people talk about, “How do we meet their needs? What needs do they have that we are not meeting?” If you really analyze those kinds of questions, the assumption is that the people leaving or not coming to church have something missing that “needs” filled. In actuality, it’s the churches that have the needs!!! But most are too self-righteous to understand that.
Preach the gospel of the kingdom. Then go and make it happen. Until churchianity gets serious about their TRUE responsibility in social, civil, and political matters, then they can forget church growth. God is judging them, and sadly they don’t see it.
More likely it is the fact that most people religion is a shame… and that a creator does not exist. How many gods have to come in and out of fashion before people realize they have been consistently duped?
