Summer Reading

Written by Claire Colvin

summer-reading-blueOn the side of the library in White Rock, BC they have a quote from William Butler Yeats in foot-high letters.  It reads, “Take down this book and slowly read”.  It’s such excellent advice, especially for summer.

There is  something about the slow days of summers that just begs for the pages of an open book.  For some of us, myself included, reading is a year ‘round pursuit.  For others, books are a summer thing, a diversion to take to the cottage or out on the boat.  However you like your books, summer is a great time to take them down and reacquaint yourself.

If you’re looking for recommendations, there are no end of lists to choose from.  There’s the New York Times’ lists, Oprah has another

and Google “beach reading” and you’re sure to get an armful.  Most libraries also put recommendations out on tables for summer readers.

If it’s been a while since you last lost yourself among the pages, wait no longer.
Find an interesting book, a cold glass of lemonade and a hammock in the shade and you’re all set to while away the afternoon.  Is anything more delicious than reading a good book outside on a warm summer day?  What’s on your reading list this summer?
