“On mine arm shall they trust.” Isaiah 51:5 (KJV)

In seasons of severe trial, Christians may have nothing on Earth that they can cling to, and therefore are compelled to cast themselves on God alone. When we are at our wits’ end, and no Earthly deliverance is in sight, we must simply and entirely trust ourselves to the God’s loving care.

And it may turn out to be a “happy storm” that wrecks us, for blessed is the hurricane that drives the soul to God and God alone. Sometimes our multitude of friends distract us from God. But when we are so poor, so friendless, so helpless that we have nowhere else to turn, we will fly into the Father’s arms. When we are burdened with troubles so pressing and so peculiar that we cannot tell them to anyone but God, we may be thankful for them, because we may learn more about our Lord than at any other time.

Why would I need faith?: Find some answers

If you are troubled, it is a “happy trouble” that drives you to your Father. Now that you have only God to trust, put your full confidence in Him. Don’t dishonor the Lord and Master by your doubts and fears. Instead, be strong in faith, giving glory to God.

Show the world that God is worth ten thousand worlds to you. Show rich men how rich you are in your poverty when the Lord God is your helper. Show the strong man how strong you are in your weakness when kept in God’s everlasting arms.

Now is the time for feats of faith and valiant exploits. Be strong and very courageous (Joshua 1:7), and the Lord you God will certainly glorify Himself in you weakness, as surely as He built the heavens and the Earth. He will magnify His might in the midst of your distress.

May the Holy Spirit give you to rest in Jesus, even during seasons of severe trial!
