Is life hectic these days? There are seasons in our lives that come and go when it just seems impossible to keep on top of all the things that need tending to. Often we let some things slip that we think will go unnoticed. At first no one does notice. Yet as the weeds take hold outside and the paperwork and the closets are ignored inside, we can feel the growing chaos around us.
The same thing happens in our inner lives when we neglect the regular care of our spirit. We begin to feel the growing chaos within. The reality of our lives becomes contrasted against the promises of our faith. We become discouraged in our spiritual journey.

God’s Word reminds us to be careful about what we ignore. In the book of Hebrews we are given reminders not to ignore the great salvation God has provided for us.
“Do you think we can risk neglecting this magnificent salvation” (Hebrews 2:1-4 The Message)?
It’s so easy to be caught up with the busy things of life that we overlook tending our inner lives. Then we often find chaos in our heart and mind and wonder why God seems distant. During those times we will most likely find our Bible starting to gather dust. God’s Word is nourishment for our souls.
If your life is chaotic and your spirit is dry…if panic is becoming more often present in your heart and mind than peace… check what you are neglecting. Make a beeline back to God’s Word and to fellowship with His people.
Make a fresh determination and declare the words that David declared so long ago in Psalm 119:16:
“I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.
I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.”
Keep God’s Word at the very core of your life. As a Christian you simply cannot risk living otherwise.
Father in Heaven, You know how easy it is for me to neglect Your Word. I confess that my Bible stays closed far too often. When You feel distant I blame You. Forgive me Lord. Help me to learn to love Your Word in a greater way. Open my eyes to what You have to say to me through it. Reveal Yourself to me in new ways. Help me to make this a priority in my life. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.

Gail, thank you for the devotional.
I am causing frustration in my life, no one else.
I need to take one ‘step’ at a time.
I am so grateful to find a reminder of keeping my thoughts on His Word, His precepts. I have been tempted to avoid my Bible because of sin that I am struggling with. I keep trying to fight this battle within on my own strength and it leaves me broken. I find that in my own strength, I fall prey to the temptation over and over…then am left with guilt. I want my life to honor my Lord, Jesus and to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. I find that if I am not in the Word, meditating on His Will for me, I am wretched to the point I cant even look myself in the mirror. Lord you are my strength, your Word is my Light and for that I am eternally grateful. Thank You for saving me, Thank You for being my God,…may I always adore You above all things in my life and find a new love for your Word. In the precious name of Jesus I pray …Amen
I needed this prayer today! This devotional has touched my heart. With 2 small children and a full-time job, I look around and see chaos in my home, in my car, laundry to do, dishes to watch, lunches to pack, grocery’s to buy, gotta get to work, the baby needs to be rocked and held and loved, my pre-schooler is ready to be read a story, etc. It is hard to stop and take the time. Thank you for this message, to remember to be thankful for all the chaos and to slow down, because one day, this time will have passed in my life. But through prayer and reading the scripture, I will be a better mother.
I won’t say my life is chaotic right now but it has been in the past, but I have learned that if I get all I can when things are good and not so busy that when the times arise that everything is pulling on me that the Word is hidden in my heart and I can draw from that. God is faith and He sent His Spirit to be a help to us so like David I say “Thy Word have I hidden in my heart so i might not sin against Thee.”
Thank you for that very meaningful prayer Gail and I repeat every single word right along with you ever so sincerely. Hugs Linda !!!
