“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life” (John 9:3, NIV).
When Jesus’ disciples saw a man who had been blind since he was born, they assumed it was the result of sin. Jesus quickly corrected their misunderstanding with the statement above from John 9:3. God’s intention to display his glory in this man was planned before the man was born.
You see, no one had ever heard of a person who was born blind being given sight. Thus when Jesus healed him, it would be clear that the miracle was something only God could do. Though the Pharisees questioned the miracle, the event transformed the man himself. His life became a megaphone proclaiming what God can do.

The man born blind isn’t the only person whose life has been orchestrated in order that it would be a platform for the work of God. God has a purpose for each one of us. Your whole life has been planned and prepared to be a series of opportunities for God’s work to be displayed.
c short comings, handicaps are all suitable circumstances for God’s power to be revealed in your life. Musical talents, academic ability, technical aptitude, creative potential when used for God are also ways God exhibits his glory through your life.
God make me aware of the ways that You desire to display Your works in my life. Teach me to be obedient and humble, allowing Your glory to be revealed. Amen
Questions: How have you seen the work of God revealed in situations that at first look disastrous? What stands in the way of you believing that God desires to reveal His glory in you?

Very small less then 2lbs. She was in the hospital a long time and finlally got to come home healthy and now a very smart happy little girl only God could have done that.
Thank you Marilyn for your lovely prayer for my sister and your kind words. May The Lord Continue to Richly Bless You and Use You For His Glory! Hugs, Linda!!!
What a wonderful devotional. I sort of read it in passing & wasn’t planning on commenting but it is SO true – that God works when we least expect it!
I am being challenged in a personal area of my life – where there are ‘mistakes’ or areas we consider ‘failures’ in our lives, I am reminded that God may do something with it that we may not know. I am certainly humbled by that fact, & I also challenge myself to remember that God is much bigger than we often might make Him out to be. Of course, there is no way I can know just how big He truly is, but I guess we learn!
Also, that line in the beginning of this devotional: “His life became a megaphone proclaiming what God can do.” was truly powerful. Lift up a prayer for me! Thanks & God bless!
For me, the disastrous point in my life was the approaching death of my beloved mother, whom I idolized! Not yet saved, I worshipped my mother, and the thought of losing her was devastating! But, it was this very reality that the Lord used to convict me of my idolatry, and to claim the throne of my heart! His Spirit buffered the heartbreak and grief that was mine when my dear mother passed away, and gave me hope in the future!
Linda R, I am so very sorry about your sister being in the hospital and gravely ill! I know how precious it is to you to be a sister, and I know there are so many here who would LOVE to be your sister, including me! I am sorry for her that she hasn’t recognized the treasure that you are, and has missed out on many memorable times together! May our Lord place His healing hand upon her, and His Spirit of reconciliation in her heart!
Gracious and loving Father, we praise You for Your faithfulness and steadfast care! We know that it is often during times of fear and anxiety that You come alongside us, walking with us through the storm! We lift up Linda’s sister to You, Lord, asking for Your mercy and grace to be poured out upon her! Grant her doctors wisdom and competence, and direct her care according to Your good will! May time spent together be a great blessing for both, and may their hearts be bound together by Your love! In the precious name of Jesus, Amen!

Can you make the print larger on this new format?
What you said Cathy is very true. We should never discount the pain of others by flippantly saying “God will bring glory out of this.” Instead we need to pray for Almighty God to comfort those in pain and to reveal Himself to them.
Only in our own lives do we have the authority to say that God has used trouble to bring glory to Himself.
It is sometimes hard to see how God could use a circumstance for his glory. For example, we had a young man in our family recently take his own life. This has brought tremendous pain and suffering to our entire extended family. For the people going through that pain, they don’t want to hear that God will somehow use this situation for his Glory.
Reading the above text has put my heart at peace.
Yesterday and the day before I felt down over this particular situation that I cannot change.
I asked myself the question how did I get into this trouble. I have always been a fearful, obedient person. I was ill advised and endup with a lifetime ban.
Now I tell myself that there is a bigger picture that I cannot see. I just know that a lot of good things are going to happen.
Thanks for shareing.
Love Joan
I am right now in the midst of a extremely devastating situation I have a sister who is a Christian , two years older than me and for some reason never seem to want to be close to me or really like me. I love her dearly and continue to pray for a close sisterly relationship with her. Well I just found out through the grape view so to speak that she is in the hospital 3hrs away and very very ill. She has never really wanted to see me but I am planning on going to see her when my husband is off work on the weekend and I truly pray that through all of this that The Lord will first heal her and draw us closer together so we can finally have that sisterly bond and to me that would be a Perfect example of the work of God being revealed in a situation that first looks disastrous. Hugs, Linda!!!
How wonderful that God has a plan for us! Rather than us floating around in this big world the Lord has His hands upon us. This reading brought back to me a very hard time. My husband, who was then my fiance, cheated on me before our wedding. The hurt was huge and it was a long struggle past it. I never thought there would be anything good to come from it. About a year later the same thing happened to a dear friend. She knew I knew how she felt and I became her strength. Further, I was able to guide her through the pain of the present and the problems of the future because I had already walked that road. I was able to give her a comfort and guidance that I never would have known had I not been there myself and was able to help her avoid painful mistakes that I had made in trying to find comfort. There is a prayer, I think St. Frances, that asks the Lord to help us be able to give love, to give peace, to offer aid and to give all of ourselves to help others. And it is in this giving the we receive. Thank you Lord for being our Father and creator of all that was, all that is and all that will ever be.How Blessed we are!
I pray for this for so many people that I know are dealing with some very serious health issues. We are taught to use every circumstance to glorify Him and to show to others that “we know He is with us and has a purpose.” I know it must be hard to actually do that and that is why I pray for it – I’ll let HIM handle their ways of glorifying and work on my own efforts in everyday life. He loves us soooooo much! Lynn
There has been so many ways that God has shown His self strong in my life that I have a hard time chosen just one. The one that is most recent is my family everyone has a family member that you just have to tolerate with their strange tactics and ungodly ways. Well mines lives with me and my mother and is my brother but to make a long story short every time anyone ask him to go to church he would say “no I don’t need that” well God is working that out because he has been talking about it lately (going to church) I only listen to gospel music in the car and now he is clapping his hands, dancing in his seat, moving to the music, wanting copy’s of different songs,he has not made it to church yet but because I know that God is faithful he won’t stop until the work is complete and church is just the beginning Bless the Lord!
