“If you make the Most High your dwelling – even the LORD, who is my refuge – then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent” (Psalm 91:9, 10).
Imagine making the Most High your dwelling place; to be at home, at rest in God; to daily live in His presence.
It isn’t that sadness or pain will never touch you, but that you have a security in Christ that cannot be stolen.

In the book of John, Jesus said, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10: 28, 29).
The promise of peace and safety beckons us, but how do we make the Most High our dwelling?
It begins with desire – a desire that God Himself put inside of us – the desire to know Him. Then we put it into action:
“Look to the LORD and His strength; seek His face always” (1 Chronicles 16:11).
“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6).
“Fear the LORD your God, serve Him only” (Deuteronomy 6:13).
As we earnestly seek after God, He reveals Himself to us. Gradually we begin to understand that He is the only source of rest and hope and joy.
Most High God, I want to make You my dwelling place. Thank you for promising that, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) I want to live daily in Your presence, free from fear and perfectly at peace. Help me to seek You with all my heart, soul and strength.
Questions: How are you seeking God? Where has your heart been residing? What do you need to do to make the Most High your dwelling place?

i am seeking God the only way i know how—by loving Him as a child should love their Father. I am being taught by the Only Book there is—His Word, the Holy Living Bible. I need to be always grateful, always humble and trust in Him.
Thanks for this, I’ve been dealing with fear lately, as I began a new job & have been struggling with not being afraid of the politics, etc. (it’s a teaching job & there are a lot of transitions going on). Pls lift up a prayer for me, for God’s grace upon me to succeed in Christ & honor Him in all I do. Thanks for the encouragement, for us to turn to God & He will lift us up. He is a merciful God. God bless.
With all the distractions and trials that my family has been going through lately I pray that I can make the LORD my most high dwelling place. Lord, please give me the strength to put you first in my life. to go to you when I am stressed and pulled in so many directions. Amen
Dear Trisha, I’m sorry to mislead you with this devotional into thinking that if it says “no harm will befall you” and you have experienced harm then it can’t be true.
When we read the Psalms we must remember that they are Hebrew poetry. They give us an intimate look into the heart of the writers – their desire to know God intimately and the truth that God responds to us in an intimate way. We see every emotion expressed in the Psalms, joy, hope, anger, grief and even despair.
The setting of this Psalm is the time when the temple had been destroyed and the people were in exile far from their home. The writer most likely had experienced great trouble and harm.
Yet the emotional mood of this Psalm is confidence in the Lord. The writer uses word pictures to help us understand how great his confidence is in the Lord. We know that we can’t step on a cobra and not be attacked (91:13), but it is a picture as well as a prophecy of our secure future hope in Jesus our Savior.
I wonder if maybe this Psalm is an example of the author talking to himself, rather than listening to himself. When we listen to ourselves to review all the bad things that have gone on, but when we talk to ourselves, we intentionally call to mind what we know to be true:
Jesus has saved us from our sins
When we trust in God our future is secure
God is the only source of hope
One day I will see the fulfillment of this salvation that I wait for.
God, I pray for Trisha. Remind her of Your goodness and Your love. Encourage her, she has had to experience so much trouble and pain. May she know Your presence today in a deep and meaningful way. Help her to know that she can find rest and hope in you – not just in the future, but also today. Amen
If you make the Most High your dwelling – even the LORD, who is my refuge – then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent” (Psalm 91:9, 10). This is from today’s devotional and i have to tell you…i made God my most high dwelling since 1981 and i’ve had my house robbed twice in one month! Have had to endure the pain of 6 surgeries and the loss of a whole family because of my faith in the LORD. Makes it kinda hard to believe in this particular scripture. sorry.
Thank you so much for this. God bless you and all that makes these lifelines possible
