Please open your Bible and read Psalm 81:8-16
Children have “selective hearing,” the ability to tune out an adult’s voice whenever they want. Either they are absorbed in their own activities and do not want to be disturbed, or they do not like what they are hearing so they ignore the voice. The adult is speaking, but you would never know it by the child’s response. At times we behave the same way toward our heavenly Father, don’t we?

Life Lesson: Time management
Are you still growing spiritually?: Check your compass and let God lead you
The Lord speaks to us through the Bible today just as He always has. His Word contains the complete revelation of God and was written by His chosen people under the control of the Holy Spirit. (2 Timothy 3:16) If we are inattentive to the Bible, then we have turned away from our major source of hearing from God.
But if we open His Word, we will hear how much He loves us. God wants to fellowship with us, to express His love to us, and to receive our love in return. From Scripture, we will receive definite direction for our lives. (Jeremiah 29:11) God knows that the world, our own selfish nature, and Satan clamor for us to choose their ways over His. God wants to provide us with His wisdom so we will make right decisions. God also talks to us to give us the reassuring and comforting words we so desperately need. He sees our trials, our failures, our humiliations, and our sorrows and wants to speak words of loving truth to us. And His Holy Spirit helps us understand what He is saying.
God still speaks. The question is; Are you listening?
Question: Can you put aside some time today to listen to what God has to say to you? How does God speak to you?

How true! We shut out the noises! and we sometimes wonder if that is what God said!
yes God is still speaking. but sometimes we don’t listen to what He is telling us.
God speaks when we quiet our hearts before God! I have to ask God to quiet my mind — what is going on, turn off the outside sound of the world -television, tune out distractions to hear God first thing in the morning! It is just my husband and i and he knows I need that time and he keeps our dog quiet! Phone distractions! He speaks through his word and sometimes you have to stop long enough so that you let say something! I lay down in the day and i try to exercise thinking and meditatin on Jesus. This quiets my heart or a shower!
vs. 13 King James Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! vs. 14. I should soon have subdued thier enemies, and turned my hand agains their adversaries! vs. he should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee!
There you go God longs to speak are we willing to listen to God’s voice!
Good reminder about listening to God and one of the main ways is through the Bible. thanks for making the Psalm a Link to bible gateway where we could read the psalm from where ever we were. We didn’t need to have out Bible with us. That is very user friendly.
I love how God confirms what I am believing in my heart! So many times I want to make decisions about life’s situations and am not sure which way to go then seeking Gods direction makes me wait to hear from Him, sometimes it’s quick sometimes it takes awhile in those times of waiting that I get to see His process in me as well as the situation and it always works out best and giving Him the glory it took a long time for me to learn that His time is not always fast time.
I am glad that I had to open to Psalms and read! Although I certainly understand that it is hard for some people to be able to do if they are at work. For me it was good as it prompted me to read His word. To listen means that I must be quiet and that is hard but how amazing that our Lord is always there waiting for us to be still and know that He is God!
For me, it’s usually when I think that nothing is happening in my life that the most is actually occuring.
This passage really spoke to me. I just finished reading through Psalms and I missed it the first time around. I am a “pastors wife” and feel drained sometimes. To think that God doesn’t always want to hear me talk but wants me to be still and listen is enlightening. Anyone who knows me, knows that I don’t know how to be still. This will be my challenge for the day. It should be very refreshing. Be still and know that I am God.
Ah, this was written by a man. Now I see why he didn’t put that men have selective hearing as well! LOL.
I do kind of wish that there had been quotes in this instead of just the parenthesis. I read this at work every morning and I like having Bible verses with it.
