“They sought God eagerly, and He was found by them” (2 Chronicles 15:15).
Eagerly: fervently, enthusiastically, readily, willingly, keenly. One dictionary even includes “raring to go” as a synonym! Many years ago we owned a horse that perfectly fit that last definition. While he needed firm encouragement to keep up speed on the way out of the stall, once the barn was in sight, this steed was definitely “raring to go.”
Is that how I approach my personal time with God? Do I enter my quiet space with fervor and enthusiasm? Am I ready to settle into His presence? Willing to hear His voice? Keenly aware that He stands ready to divulge His love through His Word?
The last sentence of the verse quoted above gives a hint of what might lie in store if my complacency were turned into eagerness: So the Lord gave them rest on every side. In the case of the Hebrew people, that rest was absence of war, but for me it could very well mean a settled confidence that God is in control, or perhaps a mind uncluttered with daily cares to hear His whisper of love.
Our horse headed for the barn because he knew that within it were shade, food and water—and a back unburdened by saddle and rider! We can know far greater sustenance and freedom if we make it a habit to “eagerly seek.”
“Eagerly seeking” takes determination and practice, Lord. Thank you for all you provide as I walk expectantly into your presence.
Questions: How eager are you to go to God’s word? Do you expect Him to speak to you? What are some things that you are anticipating to hear from God?

can one be ‘too’ eager? the Lord is there for me, it’s my choice to go to Him.
Please pray for me. I procrastinate and have gotten away from daily readings in His Word. I pray and read my devotion via e-mail but to actually sit… Please pray for me
When I get busy and don’t meet with the Lord. . . (set time apart to read His Word and pray)…. the day just doesn’t go right. I feel so much better when I have spent time with Him.
I will even feel guilty if I get caught up doing other things and do not spend time reading the Word and praying. Perhaps it is the Lord reminding me to come spend time with Him.
Andi, i hear what you are saying…there are times i have ordered myself around to the point of exhaustion. There are other times i have abandoned my feelings and not “rode out the wave” to the place the LORD wanted to tell or show me something. HIS word commands us to “be anxious for NOTHING” and it takes practice to not let so many every day things become more which matters then spending time with HIM in the faith HE so loves to glory in.
Ouch…….I needed this reminder. Since the move and hubbies return to college [age 57] the things of live have been squeezing out the things of my Lord. Thanks, as HE has been whispering, ‘Andi, it’s time to get back to me. I miss you.’
And oh how I’ve been missing HIM. Amazing how this precious time can be lost during huge transitional changes…..when we should be leaning into HIM and listening even more. Again Thanks.
I feel this devotional speaks to my heart ! I mean I just had my time with Him and I was READY! He spoke to my heart and spirit so clearly and I felt so ready to praise Him and He just loved on me He’s so good! I need to practice this everyday and I pray for His strength in that :o)
Very good analogy- thank you
Seeing all that is happening all over the world confirms that its time to reposition our spritual lives. Seek God with passion. Have an understanding of who he is in our days. After all he is the beginner and the finisher of our lives. How can we not be eager to know & warship him? Its been few days since ive joined and im blessed & motivated.
